Christopher Ward, PhD Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Ward is a distinguished computer scientist and senior engineering director of Sirius XM, with over 25 patents to his name and many inventions in the digital space. He was part of the research team that delivered the terrestrial HDTV and the decoders that are now found in all television sets. Mr. Ward has also served as a professor of computer science, contributed to many journals and publications, and authored the textbook "Computer Organization and the MC 68000."

Mr. Ward was born in London to Michael Ward and Jean Mary Potter in 1959. He was always interested in electronics and computing, which led him to the University of Hertfordshire and a BSci in Computer Science. Mr. Ward attributes his success to good mentors who led him on to the path, and he followed it to the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he earned a MSc in Computer Science and a PhD in Computer Science.

Mr. Ward was recognized with the 1985 Presidential Recognition Award from the university, and in 1988 he took up a teaching position at Auburn University in Alabama. He received the 1993 Authors Award there, and went on to become an associate professor at Hunter College, City University of New York, from 1993 to 1996.

From1996 to 2000, Mr. Ward delved into the private sector as the senior member of technical staff and group head for the Sarnoff Corporation in Princeton, New Jersey. In 2000, he went on to serve as research staff member and manager for the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Hawthorne, New York, and in 2011, he became senior engineering director at Sirius XM. He has since become a commissioner for the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, helping to ensure future scientists are properly trained in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology.

Mr. Ward has received many honors for his services to computer science, including the Outstanding Technology Achievement Award from 2009 to 2011, the 2006 President Volunteer Service Award, the IBM Corporation Research Award from 2005 to 2008, and the 1998 Achievement Award from Sarnoff Corp. He has been included in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, two volumes of Who's Who in Science and Engineering from 2008 to 2012, and two volumes of Who's Who in the World from 2008 to 2009. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, a member of International Broadcasters Convention, the Association of Computing Machinery, and past chapter president of Upsilon Pi Epsilon. Mr. Ward married in 2013, and has three children.
