Ove Tobias Gudmestad, Dr. Scient, Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Former oil industry executive, civil engineering educator, and author, Dr. Gudmestad has contributed an enormous amount of research and expertise to his industry by working in the field, teaching in the classroom, and engaging in scholarly writing. His unwavering determination and passion saw him work as an engineer, supervising engineer, and special advisor before serving as an adjunct professor in marine technology and full professor at Stavanger University, an adjunct professor in arctic offshore engineering at Norwegian University of Technology and Science, and an adjunct professor of cold climate technology at the University of Tromsoe. Since 2017, he has served as an adjunct professor at Wessex Institute of Technology in Southampton, UK.

Dr. Gudmestad has been fortunate enough to contribute to a number of wonderful organizations, too. He spent time as an advisor and project manager for offshore development projects for Russian Arctic, a visiting scientist for the Offshore Technology Research Center of Texas Agriculture and Mechanical University, a committee member for the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, and a committee chair for Norwegian Standardization, to name just a few.

Over the years, Dr. Gudmestad's research interests have emphasized risk-related issues, as well as engineering and operations in cold climates. His offshore experience includes pipeline design, offshore structures design, arctic engineering, and field development studies. Holding several patents and applications in marine technology, Dr. Gudmestad has also published many books on marine technology, arctic technology, and petroleum engineering --one of which was published in 1999 and titled "Offshore Field Development". Another book was published in 2015 and titled "Marine Technology and Operations, Theory and Practice". He has published a host of other publications that have covered topics, including applied ocean research, marine structures, and offshore concrete structures, and has written and served as an editor for the Technical Conference Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering since 1984.

A member of the Norwegian Association of Civil Engineers, the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences, the Russian Academy of Technological Sciences, and the Norwegian Scientific Academy for Polar Research, Dr. Gudmestad is also a member and former chair of the Norwegian Association of Earthquake Engineering and a fellow of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects of the UK.

Awarded with an honorary doctorate by two different schools, Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas in 2002 and the Murmansk State Technical University in 2008, Dr. Gudmestad holds a Master of Science in applied mathematics from the University of Tromsoe. Further, he completed courses in civil and ocean engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and then received a Doctorate in hydrodynamics at the University of Bergen. From 1983 to 1984, Dr. Gudmestad was a grantee by the Norwegian Science Foundation. In 2002, he was the recipient of an Offshore Energy Award granted by the Offshore Energy Center in Houston.

Married to Ruth Oddrun Grannes since 1972 with four sons, Dr. Gudmestad has been included in various editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.
