Molly Knowles Wins Guajardo & Marks Scholarship

Guajardo & Marks, LLP, a personal injury law firm in Dallas, TX, has announced Molly Knowles, a student at the University Texas School of Law, as the winner of the Guajardo & Marks Scholarship Program.

We are exceptionally proud to be able to make this contribution to such a promising young legal scholar, she is truly deserving of this scholarship.

DALLAS, TX, August 17, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "Molly is an excellent choice for this year's scholarship recipient," said Mike Guajardo, a partner in the firm. "Her written submission was fantastic and addressed a real point of interest in the Texas legal system. With her mind and her abilities, she will do very well and we're sure she'll make a positive impact in the legal profession. We're proud to be able to help Molly further her education."

The Guajardo & Marks scholarship is given to a deserving student who has met qualifications and has stood out above the other applicants. The award is based solely on a writing submission that has been published in a newspaper, magazine or journal. Applicants must also be U.S. citizens or be authorized to work in the U.S., must be enrolled in law school for the Fall 2017 semester, and provide a copy of the law school acceptance letter as well as a copy of or link to their writing sample.

Knowles, a communications assistant at Texas Municipal Courts Education Center and student at The University of Texas School of Law in Austin, won this year's award based on an article written in The Recorder, The Journal of Texas Municipal Courts titled, "Community Service: Suggested Practices and Potential Problem Areas."

Knowles, who has previously received The Criminal Justice Outstanding Student Award and Alpha Mu Gamma Modern Language Award, has been named a Trustee Scholar and was a High School Exemplary Scholar, addresses and analyzes the constitutionality of jailing individuals unable to pay fees in court. She follows the history and tradition of the law, dating back to the time of Moses, and discusses how practices are improving, including payment plans and other alternatives to jail for individuals unable to afford court-ordered fines.

"We are exceptionally proud to be able to make this contribution to such a promising young legal scholar," Guajardo said. "We look at this as an investment in the community, and one that will make a positive impact in whatever community Molly decides to become a part of. She is truly deserving of this scholarship, and it is simply an honor to have chosen her."

Guajardo said the firm plans to offer the scholarship again next year and encourages potential applicants to check the firm's web site for rules and deadlines.

"With the success of the contest this year, we look forward to continuing the program for years to come," Guajardo said. "We feel it's a duty to play whatever part we can to support and contribute to the future of the legal profession."
