Rebecca Tung Hsieh Honored for Excellence in Chinese Language Education and Translation

Ms. Hsieh co-authored "Chinese Calligraphy: Window to Chinese Culture" and the bilingual textbook "Chinese Calligraphy."

    HOUSTON, TX, August 22, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rebecca Tung Hsieh has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Ms. Hsieh is a language educator and interpreter who has spent her career translating between the Chinese and English languages. Now based in Texas, she worked for many years as a contracted interpreter and translator for the U.S. Department of State in Washington. She also started the Chinese language program at Towson University after authoring a self-study Chinese language textbook, followed by 10 years as a language instructor at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. While teaching at Johns Hopkins, Ms. Hsieh initiated Chinese Calligraphy (Shufa), which became one of the most popular studies in the Language Center.

While teaching in Baltimore, Ms. Hsieh spent three years as president and chairman of the board of the Baltimore Chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans. Her further affiliations include the Chinese Language Teachers Association and board director of the American Society of Shufa Calligraphy Education.

In addition to teaching, interpreting and remaining involved in her professional community, Ms. Hsieh co-authored two books: "Chinese Calligraphy: Window to Chinese Culture," which was published in Chinese in 2007 and the bilingual textbook "Chinese Calligraphy," which was published in Chinese and English in 2008.

Ms. Hsieh was educated in Hong Kong, China and the United States. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Evansville and her Master's degree from the Catholic University of America.

Ms. Hsieh has been married to her husband Richard since 1960. The couple has two children, Timothy and Karen. Ms. Hsieh's various accomplishments have been featured in the 64th through 69th editions of Who's Who in America, as well as the 28th edition of Who's Who of American Women.
