Dr. Park has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the psychiatry industry

BALTIMORE, MD, August 22, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Lee Crandall Park, M.D. a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Park celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Park is a distinguished psychiatric physician, researcher and medical educator who dedicated most of his 64 year-spanning career to the Department of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and to a private practice. He has been an honorary staff member of the department of medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital since 1991, and holds the title of emeritus associate professor of Psychiatry with Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Park has made invaluable contributions to the understanding of borderline and narcissistic conditions, long-term effects of childhood emotional abuse and neglect, the interrelationship of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy, as well as the genesis and nature of social, personal, and emotional intelligence.

Born in Washington, D.C., to Lee I. and Alice Crandall Park, Dr. Park distinguished himself at Putney Preparatory School in Vermont before going on to study zoology at Yale University. He earned an MD from Johns Hopkins University in 1952, and attended psychology courses as part of his medical school education. Following medical internship with the Osler Service of Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Park was recruited into the U.S. Naval Reserve, 1953-1955, ultimately serving to the rank of lieutenant with the medical corps. His psychology background qualified him to become Division Psychiatrist, 1st Marine Division in Korea, and he served subsequently as a staff psychiatrist with the U.S. Navy Hospital in Camp Pendleton, California. While in Korea, Dr. Park was presented a letter of appreciation by his commanding officer for outstanding performance of duty. He also began to form his own approach to treatment of personality disorders, favoring psychotherapy over pharmacology. Dr. Park returned to Johns Hopkins in 1955, and served as a psychiatrist in various leadership positions throughout his life. He has provided individual psychodynamic psychotherapy, as well as group and family therapy, paying more attention to the life stories and developmental years than primarily prescribing drugs. Dr. Park's insight has shown that people with personality disorders have profound difficulty understanding themselves and other people alike.

In response to his excellent psychiatric approach, Dr. Park was appointed director of psychiatric outpatient services and the community psychiatry program at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He practiced with Baltimore City Hospital as a visiting psychiatrist, and served as an investigator with the National Institute of Mental Health Psychopharmacology Research Branch in studies of drug sets interaction. In the late '60s, Dr. Park worked with Dr. Eugene Meyer in time-limited psychotherapy research. He has consulted with numerous institutions, notably the Social Security Administration, the Seton Psychiatric Institute, the Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital, and the Metropolitan Baltimore Association for Mental Health. From 1978 to 1998, Dr. Park volunteered with the Maryland Interdisciplinary Council for Children and Adolescents.

Dr. Park has authored many research articles and is a co-author of "A Primer on Mental Disorders: A Guide for Educators, Families and Students," released in 2001. He is a distinguished lifetime fellow of the American Psychiatric Association where he has been a member of the Assembly of District Branches 1983-1993, a governing body of the APA. He is a member of numerous medical, historical, and community societies, including the Maryland Psychiatric Society (President 1978-79), Maryland Foundation for Psychiatry (President 2000-03), American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, American Medical Association, International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders, Social Register Association, Saint Nicholas Society, St. George's Society, General Society Sons of the Revolution, General Society of Colonial Wars, and the General Society of the War of 1812. He is a member of the Yale Club of New York City, Chevy Chase Club (MD), Metropolitan Club (DC), Johns Hopkins Club (MD),.and Farmington Country Club (VA).

Dr. Park was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World. He is the father of two children and two stepchildren. Dr. Park enjoys the company of three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. At the age of 91 years old, Dr. Park still enjoys hiking and fishing in the Beartooth Mountains of Montana.
