Earlier in his career, he joined the University of Bern as junior faculty. From there, he became an associate and full professor with the Union Theological Seminary of Virginia. Over the years, he also worked as professor of history, archaeology, and early Christianity and its environment, director of the Institute of New Testament and Judaic Studies, and dean of the School of Theology at the University of Kiel.

A graduate of the University of Bern, Dr. Lampe holds a PhD, and a Dr. Habil. His professional affiliations include the Society of Biblical Literature and the Societas Theologicum Ordinem Adiuvantium. Throughout his career, he has authored a variety of books such as "From Paul to Valentinus: Christians at Rome in the First Two Centuries," "Reality as an Image: The New Testament as a Fundamental Document of Western Culture in the Light of Constructivist Epistemology and Sociology of Knowledge," and "Pepouza and Tymion: The Discovery and Archeological Exploration of a Lost Ancient City and an Imperial Estate." The latter book is about his discovery of the long lost ancient cities of Peponza and Tymion in Phrygia and his archaeological explorations of them since the year 2000.

Beyond his status as a intuitive and versatile figure in his industry, he has been honored many times for his professional accomplishments. In addition to being named a decorated knight of the Order of St. John and an honorary professor in South Africa, Dr. Lampe has been featured in numerous volumes of Who's Who in the World.
