Shen-Ming Chen Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Chen is a distinguished professor at the department of chemical engineering and biotechnology at the National Taipei University of Technology, a position he earned after 26 years of service with the institution. He has published over 600 professional research and review papers, and is often cited in the Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry as well as Biosensor and Bioelectronics. Dr. Chen's active projects include the use of nanomaterials in the environmental monitoring of heavy metal ions, electrodes for electrochemical sensors and biosensors, as well as the synthesis of highly porous nanomaterials for energy storage, conversion, and isomerisation application.

Born to Gin-Wei and Huang-Ai Chen in Chunghua, Taiwan in 1957, Dr. Chen studied at the National Taiwan University to earn a PhD in 1991. He earned the doctorate while teaching at the National Defense Medical University in Taipei, and went on to serve as an associate professor for six years with the National Taipei Institute of Technology. Dr. Chen conducted postgraduate research with the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry in 1997, based in the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg situated in Germany. He became a full professor at the National Taipei University of Technology in 1997, served as dean of library for six years, and was recognized as a distinguished professor in 2010.

Since 2015, Dr. Chen has been retained concurrently as an academic adviser for the Ministry of Education in Taiwan. He has served as a leader with the Taiwan Chemical Sensors Technology Association, the Taiwan Electrochemical Society, the Taiwan Science and Technology Association of Chemical Senosrs, as well as the chemical sensing group at the Science and Technology Center. Dr. Chen has been affiliated with the Chemical Engineering Society Taipei, the American Chemical Society, and the International Society of Electrochemistry, and received the 2012 and 2016 Top Cited Author award from Biosensors and Bioelectronics, as well as a 2017 Outstanding Performance and Contribution Award from the Asia Pacific Society for Materials Research. Other accolades include the 2017 International Association of Advanced Materials Medal, the 2010 to 2017 Outstanding Academic Prizes from the Association of Chemical Sensors in Taiwan, as well as a number of excellence awards from the Ministry of Science and Technology in Taiwan.

The National Taipei University of Technology has awarded Dr. Chen three outstanding research prizes in 2005, 2009, and 2016, as well as prizes from 2004 to 2006 from their College of Engineering, and the 2005 to 2017 prizes for sunlight fund paper publishing, a first for the entire school. For innovations in chemical engineering and dedication as a scientific educator, Dr. Chen was selected for inclusion in seven volumes of Who's Who in the World, four volumes of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and two volumes of Who's Who in Asia in 2012 and 2007. He is married to Mei-Lin Lu, with whom he has two children: Jo-Yu and Tse-Wei.
