A certified public accountant, Dr. Fairchild has served as an educator with Nicholls State University since 1969. He initially joined the university as an assistant professor of accounting before accepting a position as an associate professor in 1975. From 1976 to 1984, Dr. Fairchild served as a professor before being named a distinguished professor of accounting in 1984. He held this position until his retirement at the turn of the century.
Since 2002, Dr. Fairchild has been recognized as a distinguished professor emeritus with Nicholls State University. He is credited with co-authoring numerous scholarly works, including "The Acquisition and Distribution of Commercial Products" and "Income Tax Guides for Tax Legislators." In addition, Dr. Fairchild has contributed articles to professional journals pertaining to his areas of expertise.
Prior to pursuing a career as a finance educator, Dr. Fairchild graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology. He briefly worked as a geologist with United Core, Inc. in Houston before discovering his true calling in the financial world. Dr. Fairchild returned to Louisiana State University, where he completed an MBA in 1963 and a PhD in 1975. During this time, he served as an associate accountant with Humble Oil & Refining Co. and as a partner with L.A. Champagne & Co. For more than 30 years, he managed a private accounting practice based out of Thibodaux.
An accomplished authority in the area of finance, Dr. Fairchild maintains active involvement with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Accounting Association and National Association of Accountants. In addition, he is a member of the Society of Louisiana CPAs, through which he was named Louisiana's Outstanding Accounting Educator in 1994. He has delivered numerous lectures and seminars through this organization. Dr. Fairchild is also an active member of the Nichols State University Alumni Association, which recognized him as a Case Educator of the Year in 1994. He was named the recipient of the Honorary Alumnus Award in 1991.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Fairchild has received numerous awards in recognition of his business acumen. He was named the recipient of the Academy Excellence Award from Henderson State University in 2003 and 2004. Previously, Dr. Fairchild was named a Trueblood Professor by the Touche-Ross Foundation in 1987. He has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Fairchild was selected for inclusion in the 26th through 33rd editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, as well as the 3rd and 6th editions of Who's Who in American Education. Outside of his career as a finance educator, Dr. Fairchild has worked as an actor in several television programs, including "The Kingfish" on TNT, "Orleans" on CBS, and "Deadman Walking." His stage appearances include "South Pacific," "Arsenic and Old Lace," "Brigadoon" and "Damn Yankees."
