Monique Myrtle Weant Laughlin PhD Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Laughlin has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the mental health industry

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, August 31, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Monique Myrtle Weant Laughlin a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Ms. Laughlin celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Survivors workshops are a way for therapists to help people who have gone through trauma to recover and make sense of a life-changing event. It is also the type of counseling Ms. Laughlin was best known for as a mental health professional. She is the owner and director of Pathfinders Incorporated and director of Break-Through Incorporated in Oklahoma City, firms known in mental health circles for providing therapeutic guidance in four-day workshops. Ms. Laughlin is now retired after 42 years of helping countless Sooner State residents.

Born in Paton, Iowa to Irving Leroy Weant and Ella Florence Blaylock in 1924, Ms. Laughlin married Gerald Dean Laughlin in 1944, with whom she has had three children: Roy Melvin, Owen Willard, and James Byron. She attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa to earn a BA in 1949 and worked at the First National Bank in Texas to the position of assistant vice president. Ms. Laughlin turned to the study of mental health as a way to process some of her own internal difficulties. To that end, she earned a Master of Science from Southern Illinois University in 1975 and was licensed as a marital and family therapist. In that year, she joined Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City as an alcohol and drug counselor, marking the start of her career in therapy.

In 1977, Ms. Laughlin joined the Community Counseling Center in Oklahoma City, and two years later, she opened her own practice as a counselor and training consultant. In 1981, she briefly served Johnco Incorporated as a petroleum landman, before joining the department of human services in Oklahoma City as a training officer and staff developer. That year, she received a PhD from the University of Oklahoma.

Four years later, she became executive director of Break-Through, and in 1990, she became owner of Pathfinders. After Ms. Laughlin's four-day survivor workshops, participants would then tell her the experience was life changing. The workshops dealt with family of origin issues.

Ms. Laughlin has set down many of her insights in her books "Connecting to Your Source" and "What Are You Thinking?" In 1991, she joined the citizen ambassador program People to People traveling to Spain and Portugal.

Ms. Laughlin was a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy as well as the Oklahoma Psychological Association. She was welcomed into numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women, the 2009 volume of Who's Who in the World, and the 1993 to 1994 volume of Who's Who in the South and Southwest. She is 93 years old, and still enjoys travel.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ms. Laughlin has been featured on the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievers website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
