As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Beginning in the late 1950s and early 1960s, Mr. Howey worked for several architectural firms on the west coast of Florida. Spending several of those years as John Howey, Architect in Tampa before founding his current architectural firm, John Howey & Associates, Architecture and Planning, Inc., in 1973, he has come to specialize in offices, religious auditoriums, and restaurants. Notably, some of Mr. Howey's most recognizable projects have included the Tampa City Hall Plaza, the Village Presbyterian Church, and the Williers Residence in Tampa.

As a registered architect in the state of Florida and practicing in the Tampa Bay area for most of his career, Mr. Howey has the confidence to do great work for each and every client. Some of his most notable architecture is not only all across Florida, but in Georgia and North Carolina as well. More recently, Mr. Howey was recognized with a 2016 Test of Time for 25 Years by Bay Villa Place in Tampa.

In the 1990s, Mr. Howey began writing and lecturing on the architectural legacy of Sarasota, Florida, resulting in a book, "The Sarasota School of Architecture: 1941-1966," published by MIT Press in 1995. That following year, in 1996, he collaborated with Ringing College's Selby Gallery to create an exhibit by incorporating photos, renderings, and architectural models. The critically acclaimed launch followed with an exhibit that traveled throughout the U.S. for the next five years. He also co-authored "Florida Architecture: A Celebration" in 2000 and "As Architecture Florida Modern" in 2004.

Mr. Howey served as president of Baypark, Inc., in Tampa from 1988 to 2002. After completing his degrees, Mr. Howey served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1958. He is married to Maria Andrea Hatges since 1968, with whom he shares two children. Mr. Howey hope to be remembered as a architect in the vein of Paul Rudolph, an American architect and chair of Yale University's department of agriculture who was internationally known for his use of concrete and highly complex floor designs.
