Omar S. Aljitawi Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Innovation in Medicine

Dr. Aljitawi's research holds the promise of improving current cancer treatments by researching stem cell applications for conditions such as leukemia



    ROCHESTER, NY, September 15, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Omar S. Aljitawi has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For 18 years, Dr. Aljitawi has studied hematology and oncology with the goal of making a difference in the lives of his patients. He cares for patients while conducting research at the University of Rochester Medical Center. At Dr. Aljitawi's laboratory, he seeks to revolutionize treatments that are currently not optimal by studying human hematopoietic stem cells and their interaction with microenvironment, utilizing umbilical cord blood stem cells, Wharton's jelly mesenchymal stromal cells, Wharton's jelly matrix, and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.

Born in Amman, Jordan to Salah Aljitawi and Haya Hanbali, Dr. Aljitawi studied medicine with the University of Jordan. He served an internship with the Al-Bashir Hospital in Amman, and traveled to the U.S. to serve a residency in internal medicine with the East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. In 2004, he joined the hematology and medical oncology community as a fellow of the University of Kansas Medical Center. In 2007, Dr. Aljitawi joined the bone marrow transplant fellowship program at the City of Hope Medical Center.

Dr. Aljitawi currently practices medicine from the University of Rochester, with research interests in studying umbilical cord blood interaction with erythropoietin, developing models for leukemia and chemotherapy, and all applications of hematology and oncology, including transplantation of bone marrow and umbilical stem cells. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, as well as the American Board of Hematology and Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Aljitawi is joined on the cutting edge of medical science by a steadfast group of scientists, including the American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He has contributed to numerous medical journals, and was selected for inclusion in the 2007 volume of Who's Who in America. Dr. Aljitawi is married to Hala Ashour, and has two sons named Salah and Yousef.
