Established in 2004 by Mr. Schlesinger himself, Schlesinger Gannon & Lazetera LLP is a legal firm that specializes in trusts and estates law, located on Madison Avenue in the heart of New York City. Recognized as a leader in his field, Mr. Schlesinger and his law partners represent individuals, fiduciaries, family-owned businesses, various other business entities, and executives in both public and private companies, as well as non-profit organizations. As Founding Partner of his firm, Mr. Schlesinger and his team have steadily grown the business to 10 practicing attorneys since first opening their doors 13 years ago. Completing his Bachelor of Science with Honors in Government at the prestigious Columbia University in 1963, Mr. Schlesinger later earned his JD at Fordham University in 1966. Since that time, Mr. Schlesinger has climbed the legal ladder, beginning his career as an Associate for Frankenthaler & Kohn in New York City. From there, he became an Assistant Attorney General in the Trusts and Estates Bureau, Charitable Foundation Division for the State of New York from 1967 to 1969 before landing his first role as Partner at Rose & Schlesinger, which he held until 1981. Accepting the title of Partner at Goldshmidt, Fredericks and Oshatz that same year, he later became Partner and Head of the Trusts and Estates Department at Shea & Gold in 1985. In 1993, he accepted a position with Kaye Scholer LLP as Partner and Head of the Wills and Estates Department, and Co-chair of Family Owned Business Practice Group.

Throughout the course of Mr. Schlesinger's legal career, he has also held several professional designations. Having conducted numerous workshops in his field, he has also lectured extensively and spent 25 years in the classroom as an Adjunct Professor at New York Law School, as well as at Columbia University School of Law from 1989-94, and at the University of Miami School of Law's Estate Planning Graduate Program from 1995-2003. He also served as a Director of the New York Bar Foundation for nearly a decade.

Passing the Bar of the State of New York in 1966, Mr. Schlesinger thereafter became certified by the US District Court (Southern and Eastern Districts) of New York in 1967, the US Court of Appeals (Second Circuit) in 1968, the US Court of International Trade in 1969, the US Supreme Court in 1978, followed by the US Tax Court in 1993.

Affiliated with various professional organizations, Mr. Schlesinger has served on the Estate Planning Advisory Committee of the Practicing Law Institute, as an Academician for the International Academy of Estate and Trust Law and as a Fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, where he also served as Chairman of Downstate New York from 2001 to 2007.

Mr. Schlesinger has grown among his professional and personal communities due to his involvement with such establishments as the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils where he was elected to its Estate Planners Hall of Fame, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, the Brooklyn Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the New York State Bar Association, where he has held the titles of Chairman of the Executive Committee for the 1st Judicial District, Treasurer of Trusts and Estates Section, Secretary of Trusts and Estates Section, Chairman of Trusts and Estates Section, and New York State Journal Board Editor. Mr. Schlesinger has also been recognized for his many civic duties, including having served as President of District 17 New York City Community School Board, Member of the Nominating Committee for the Scarsdale School Board, New York, Member of their Legislative Advocacy Committee, Member of the Advisory Board for the Institute of Federal Taxation at New York University, and for The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Advisory Board from 2006 to this day.

Featured in close to 100 publications of Who's Who, Mr. Schlesinger has been included in Who's Who of American Law, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World, dating back to 1990. Mr. Schlesinger has written numerous articles and is the author of three books, "Estate Planning Under Tax Reform," "Estate Planning for the Elderly Client" and "Planning for the Elderly or Incapacitated Client", released in 1980, 1984 and 1993, respectively. Mr. Schlesinger is the son of Irving and Ruth (Rubin) Schlesinger. He is married to his wife, Lianne, and he has three children, Merideth, Jarrod, and Alexandra.
