With nearly 35 years of industry experience, Dr. Yamamoto currently serves as a professor with the Graduate School of Biosphere Science at Hiroshima University. At the start of his career, he worked as a research scientist for The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and the Aichi Fisheries Research Institute. Subsequently, he held a number of educational roles for Hiroshima University, including associate professor and assistant professor. Over the years, Dr. Yamamoto has also lent his services as a visiting scientist to Bulapa University, Corthron Institute, Wales University, Dalhausie University, and British Columbia University.

A graduate of Hiroshima University and Tohoku University, Dr. Yamamoto holds a PhD. In order to remain active among his professional circles, he affiliates himself with the Plankton Society of Japan, The Oceanographic Society of Japan, the Japanese Society of Fisheries Science, the Japanese Society of Fisheries Oceanography, and the Japanese Association for Coastal Zone Studies. Throughout the course of his lengthy career, he has contributed his knowledge to books and research papers covering a variety of topics, such as distribution ecology of marine phytoplankton, information on the red-tides in the cultural grounds of Nori, physiological responses of Si-limited skeletonema costatum to silicate supply with a salinity decrease, and the dentrification and nitrate reduction rates in the sediment of Hiroshima Bay.

In addition to his status as a determined and versatile figure in his field, Dr. Yamamoto has been awarded many times for professional endeavors, earning The Yamaoka Prize from the Japan Steel Association, the JACZS Award for Publication and Culture through the Japanese Association for Coastal Zone Studies, and the Uda Prize for the leading scientist in the field of fisheries oceanography through the Japanese society of the same name. Additionally, Dr. Yamamoto has been featured in one edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and four editions of Who's Who in the World.
