Mr. Manges served as a partner or Managing Director of Kuhn, Loeb & Co. and Lehman Brothers for 29 years. He specialized in corporate finance and was closely involved, on a relationship basis through the years, with a wide variety of companies both U.S.-based and international. He advised these companies on their overall corporate strategy; their M&A and the implementation of many acquisitions; and on their financings (including their implementation). He also assisted a number of foreign governments, including Denmark, Sweden, and the Philippines, in establishing their credit through debt financings in the international capital markets.
Born in the Big Apple to Horace S. Manges (one of the three founding partners of law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges) and Natalie Manges in 1927, Mr. Manges was encouraged to make his own decisions by his parents. He went to school during World War II at Phillips Exeter Academy and found that experience to be a maturing process. Mr. Manges served with U.S. Army Counter Intelligence in Italy and Austria in 1946 and 1947. Upon his return, he completed a degree at Yale University and went on to earn an MBA from Harvard University.
Now resting on excellent qualifications, Mr. Jim Manges joined the firm of Kuhn, Loeb & Co. in New York in 1954. The firm merged with Lehman Brothers in 1977 to become Lehman Brothers Kuhn, Loeb Inc. In 1996 he retired from Lehman.
Mr. Manges additionally served as a director and Executive Committee member of each of Metromedia Inc. from 1970 to 1986, Proudfoot PLC (U.K.) from 1996 to 1998, and Baker Industries from 1967 to 1979. He was named a trustee of his old school, Phillips Exeter Academy, in the 1980's, and served as a trustee of The Episcopal School (N.Y.C.) and St. Bernard's School (N.Y.C.) in the 1980's and 1990's. Mr. Manges has served on the Yale Class of 1950 Executive Committee since 2010 and has been a member of the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS), Washington, DC, since 1988. He maintains memberships at the Yale Club of N.Y., Century Country Club, and Harvard Club of N.Y.
