Andrew J. Demetriou Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Law

    LOS ANGELES, CA, October 04, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Andrew J. Demetriou has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Demetriou is an attorney and expert on corporate law and healthcare law, as well as a consultant to health care providers and an expert witness on corporate transactions, corporate governance, healthcare and professional responsibility and ethics issues. Significant matters he has handled include advising the largest health system in New Mexico in creating a world-class radiation oncology facility, the acquisition by UCLA Medical Center of its Santa Monica Hospital facility, the affiliation between UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital of Los Angeles and the recent restructuring of a major non-profit medical foundation in Southern California and its affiliation with over 200 community-based physicians. He is regularly involved in significant merger and acquisition transactions for privately held businesses based throughout the United States.

Mr. Demetriou wrote the book "Health Care Integration: Structural and Legal Issues" with Thomas E. Dutton in 1996 and was a contributing author to the 2015 Health Law and Compliance Update. He is a frequent speaker on health care, corporate law and professional responsibility topics for local, state and national bar associations and other organizations.

Mr. Demetriou graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1976, with a BA, summa cum laude, in Economics and was granted membership with the honor society Phi Beta Kappa, as well as the national economics honor society Omicron Delta Epsilon. He went on to earn a law degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1979, where he served as Research and Books Editor of The Ecology Law Quarterly, the leading environmental law journal in the United States. Mr. Demetriou was selected for membership to the prestigious Order of the Coif upon graduation.

Following law school, Mr. Demetriou became an associate of Demetriou, Del Guercio & Lovejoy from 1979 to 1985, and went on to one of the largest international law firms in the world, Jones Day. He became a partner in 1988 in the Corporate Practice and served as Los Angeles Office Coordinator for that practice as well as on the Leadership Council of the Health Care Specialized Industry Practice and the Partners Financial Advisory Committee. In 2004, he joined Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP, now NortonRoseFulbright LLP, in Los Angeles, where he served as Los Angeles Office Coordinator for the Corporation, Business and Banking Practice and as a Partner in the Health Care Practice.

In 2012, he joined Berkeley Research Group, an international consulting firm, as a Managing Director in the Health Analytics Practice and Credo LLP, a boutique law practice serving corporate and emerging business clients. In the former role he provides strategic business advice and expert services to a range of clients. He began his association with Lamb & Kawakami LLP in 2015, where he advises health care providers and service organizations as well as privately held business on corporate transactions, governance matters and corporate compliance issues.
Mr. Demetriou is listed in Best Lawyers in America in the corporate, mergers and acquisitions, and healthcare categories, as well as by California Super Lawyers and Chambers USA Guide to Leading Lawyers for California Healthcare. He was named Outstanding Healthcare Transaction Lawyer by Nightingale's Healthcare Law News in 2003, and is rated as AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell.

Mr. Demetrious is a former Chair of the American Bar Association Health Law Section and has served on Standing Committees of the ABA, as well as serving as a leader in committees of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association. He is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the UCLA Foundation, the Junior Statesmen Foundation of America, the Board of Visitors of the UCLA Department of Economics, the Healthcare Committee of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, and the editorial board of the Corporate Compliance and Regulatory Newsletter. In 1984, he was the Venue Protocol Manager for the aquatic events in the Games of the XXIII Olympiad. He presently serves as Special Counsel to the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial Commission, a Presidential Commission charged with the construction of a permanent memorial to President Eisenhower in Washington, D.C.
