Medical Mission Relief Fundraiser in Miami to Aid Those in Puerto Rico and other Caribbean Islands

Organizations rally to raise money for medical relief trip to Puerto Rico at Cafeina in Wynwood on October 21st.

MIAMI, FL, October 08, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- As the hurricane ravaged island of Puerto Rico still remains widely without power, many citizens are struggling to find the food, water and medical assistance they need to begin the long, arduous recovery process. Currently, Jose's Hands has around 70 volunteer first responders, nurses, doctors and enough equipment and supplies to support the health needs of people on the island for a week. The nonprofit has also already planned a Medical Mission trip scheduled for Oct. 11-15. All they need is a way to get to the people who need it in time.

In an effort to provide medical assistance for Puerto Rico, Jose's Hands, a nonprofit organization established to encourage medical missions to the Caribbean and Latin America, is joining forces with local medical schools and organizations to raise money for its medical mission trip. On Saturday, October 21st, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., Jose's Hands will be hosting a fundraising event at Cafeina Wynwood Lounge at 297 NW 23rd St, to raise $30,000 for medicine, equipment and logistical support to Puerto Rico.

"We've had medical personnel and professionals from all over the country reach out to us to provide supplies and hands. The initial team we sent 5 days after the hurricane spoke with medical officials in underserved areas of the West Coast of Puerto Rico and received a list of medicines and doctors they need," said Alex Miranda, Executive Director for Jose's Hands. "This event is a way for us to fulfill on a promise we gave them of returning and helping by uniting for relief to the Caribbean and celebrate Miami's overall medical mission community."

Presented by Jose's Hands, the event will feature a Puerto Rican band, Puerto Rican food, and live action casino games to raise money for more medical supplies, equipment and ultimately travel to Puerto Rico and other Caribbean Islands. Prizes will be available from a variety of supporting sponsors around Miami.

For the event, the nonprofit medical mission organization is partnering with multiple student organizations on the FIU campus, including C.U.R.E., a growing Pre-Health organization, and FIU Alternative Breaks, the university's largest, award-winning service learning program where students can get community service through diversity, education and leadership training. Also partnering is, Podiatry Overseas, an organization comprised mainly of students from Barry University's School of Podiatry. These organizations will be selling tickets to raise money for the events.

Over 20 other companies and professionals have also offered to share their fortune with the medical mission trips supported by Jose's Hands, including OrthoNOW Orthopedic Urgent Care, Lifestyle Design International, Lifestyle Real Estate, Smart Money Life, PRMG Miami Lakes, Caution CrossFit, Bacardi Classic Cocktails, Don Shula's Golf & Spa Resort, PrintHouse USA, Launch in 2 Days, Ink Link Marketing, and more.
