Eduardo A. Salvati Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

    NEW YORK, NY, October 23, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eduardo A. Salvati is a celebrated Marquis Who's Who biographee. Dr. Salvati is a world-renowned hip surgeon who has worked for almost 50 years at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He has cared for over 15,000 patients throughout his career and has been at the forefront of major advances in the international field of hip replacement surgery. Dr. Salvati followed in the footsteps of his father Dr. Agustin Alceste Salvati, who was also a distinguished orthopedic surgeon and Surgeon-in-Chief of the Hospital de Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was also the Founder and Director of the Instituto de Rehabilitacion del Lisiado in Quilmes.

Dr. Eduardo A. Salvati completed his medical education at La Plata Medical School in La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1963. Subsequently he served an internship and residency at the Clinica Ortopedica of the University of Florence, Italy from 1963 to 1965 and at the Hospital de Quilmes from 1965 to 1969, becoming a diplomate of the Argentine Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He specialized with a hip fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery under the direction of Dr. Philip D. Wilson, Jr from 1969 to 1972. Dr. Salvati has been a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery since 1972, and that year he was offered to join the Hospital for Special Surgery as the Chief of the Hip Service, later becoming the Director of the Hip and Knee Service. He has been responsible for educating and providing surgical training for hundreds of residents and fellows, and is a longtime faculty member and Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. First appointed as an instructor in 1969, Dr. Salvati became a full professor at the esteemed educational establishment in 1983.

Dr. Salvati has lectured extensively across the globe, including the distinguished Charnley Memorial Lecture at the University of Liverpool, England in 1992. Most recently served as a keynote speaker at the March 2017 Xiangshan International Arthroplasty Summit in Beijing, China, on his 40 years of experience in the treatment of periprosthetic hip arthroplasty infection. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Iowa, the University of Pennsylvania, and many other academic institutions. Dr. Salvati's work included basic, applied, clinical, and biomechanical research to refine the complex aspects of total hip replacement. Furthermore he studied the prospective evaluation of the clinical and economic outcomes of total hip replacement, refinement of surgical techniques and prosthetic design, postoperative complications, etc. He also conducted pioneering research in identifying the clinical and genetic factors which predispose patients at high risk for developing thromboembolism after hip replacement surgery.

Dr. Salvati was the President of the American Hip Society in 1997, Secretary-Treasurer of the International Hip Society for ten years (1986 to 1996), and a longstanding member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the New York Medical Society, as well as an honorary member of several foreign orthopedic societies. He is the co-author of several books, a contributor to chapters in 23 books by other authors, and a consultant reviewer for The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, the Journal of Arthroplasty, Hip International and other recognized national and international publications. Dr. Salvati served on various editorial boards for orthopedic journals, and was a guest editor for several other publications. He has authored close to 300 publications in peer-review academic orthopedic journals.

Additionally, Dr. Salvati has been the recipient of four American Hip Society Awards and a Nicholas Andry Award from the American Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons, among others. He has received numerous grants over the years, as well as two Lifetime Achievement Awards, one from The Hospital for Special Surgery and the other from The Arthritis Foundation. The Hospital for Special Surgery established a chair under his name for the continuing advancement of hip replacement surgery in 2006. Dr. Salvati has been cited in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the East several times. Furthermore, he has been named to Best Doctors in New York by New York Magazine every year since 2001.
