Dennis E. Kroll, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Kroll, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Kroll celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. A well-known and well-respected professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering at Bradley University in Peoria, IL, Dr. Kroll spent the first 10 years of his career in the field before getting into academia. Working for various organizations, including serving as a development engineer for Western Electric Company, senior industrial engineer for Sunbeam Appliance Company, and planning engineer for AT&T Technologies, he was able to easily transition into education a few years later, bringing a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience with him to the classroom. Accepted to teach at the university in 1981, he has since taught everything from freshman to graduate level courses in the industrial and manufacturing, engineering and technology department, as well as sophomore and graduate courses for the computer science department, MBA courses, and seminars for honors students, including Engineering Ethics, Technology and Society, and Just War Theory. He has also served on a number of university, college, and department committees, as well as three terms on the University Senate. He is now a professor emeritus of industrial and manufacturing engineering.

Throughout his years in the field, Dr. Kroll's research interests have involved the application of a broad range of operations research techniques, as well as industrial psychology. He has completed work that has involved teaching techniques that use simulation and online courses, new methods of using multi-objective simulation techniques for plant layout, the application of lean to small medical facilities, flexibility and motivational measures, and more. He has also documented his work in published journals, such as Computers and Industrial Engineering, and has contributed chapters to books for various other authors. Furthermore, Dr. Kroll has put together many conference proceedings and presentations that have been presented both nationally and abroad.

Dr. Kroll spent time as a senior member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, as a certified system integrator and former chapter president of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, as an IE division webmaster, secretary, newsletter editor, and chair of the American Society of for Engineering Education, and as a member of the American Legion, among others. He also served as the founding editor for the Journal of Industrial Engineering Design from 1995 to 2002. When it comes to community, Dr. Kroll has been very present as a member of the board of trustees for the West Peoria Street Light District in Illinois, founding alderman for the City of West Peoria, precinct committee member for the City of Eureka, as well as founding member of the City Liquor Commission.

The recipient of numerous awards for his work, including a 1990 Laboratory Development Award granted by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, a 1995 Simulation Laboratory Development Award by the St. Francis Medical Center, a 2001 and 2009 Bradley Virtual Course Development Award, and a 2006 Council of Graduate Schools grantee, Dr. Kroll has also been cited in many editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.

Dr. Kroll holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Bradley University, a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and a PhD in Decision Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana. Married to Carolyn S. Clark, Dr. Kroll has two sons from a previous marriage. When he isn't busy at school, he loves to fish, garden, and cook; he is also a history buff.
