Dr. Udogu has proudly been working in academia for more than 30 years, first as a professor at Francis Marion University, as well as a professor and faculty fellow at Appalachian State University since 2003. Teaching as a professor of political science in the department of government and justice studies, he has taught African Politics, Conflict Resolutions, Comparative Politics: Ethnic Conflict, International Relations, Minority Politics, Politics of the Developing Nations, and Human Rights.

Throughout his career, Dr. Udogu earned the opportunity to serve as a political analyst and guest speaker for Black History Month on CBS-TV-13 in 1988, PBS-27 in 1991, and ABC-TV-15 in 1992. He also served as the president of the Coalition of Black Networking from 1990 to 1991. He is a former board member of the South Carolina Political Science Association, a former president of the Association of Third World Studies, and a member of the International Studies Association and the South Carolina Consortium for International Studies.

A published author, Dr. Udogu has written 15 books since 1997, including "Human Rights Dilemmas in the Developing World: The Case of Marginalized Populations at Risk" in 2017, "Leadership and the Problem of Electoral Democracy in Africa: Case Studies and Theoretical Solutions" in 2016, "Imagining the United States of Africa: Discourses on the Way Forward" in 2015, "Examining Human Rights Issues and the Democracy Project in Sub-Sahara Africa" in 2014, "The Developing World: Critical Issues in Politics and Society" in 2012, "Liberating Namibia: The Long Diplomatic Struggle Between the United Nations and South Africa" in 2011, and "Confronting the Challenges and Prospects in the Creation of a Union of Africa States in the 21st Century" in 2010. He has contributed chapters to approximately 20 books, roughly 25 articles in professional journals such as the Journal of Third World Studies, the Journal of Political Science, and the Journal of Black Studies, and has conducted more than 35 book reviews for various authors. In 2001, he headed a proceeding, "Political Integration and Contemporary Discourse on Continental Unification in Africa", as part of the Global Awareness Society International Colloquium at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.

Additionally, Dr. Udogu is a former editorial advisory board member of Collegiate Press. He has also been a longtime reviewer for the Journal of Third World Studies since 1990, and reviewer for the Canadian Review of Studies in Nationalism in the 1990s. He briefly served as a guest editor for the Journal of Asian and African Studies in 1996 and, for more than a decade, he was director of the Research and Publication African Studies and Research Forum.

Dr. Udogu holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Appalachian State University, a Master of Arts in Political Science from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and a PhD in International/Comparative Politics, also from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He has been named to Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, and Who's Who in the World numerous times for his achievements in his field of expertise. He also recently received a Tops African Center Scholars Decade Award in 2012 and was named Outstanding Scholars of the 21st Century by the International Biographical Center in Cambridge, England, in 2000.
