Dr. Chung currently holds the title of senior engineer at the Research and Development Lab at Taeyoung Engineering and Construction, a position he has maintains since 2006. He previously served Sunkoo Engineering as a technical director on the Railway Design Team from 2003 to 2005, and Saman Corporation as the manager of the Railway Structural Design Team from 1999 to 2003. He began his career in 1998 as the manger of the Structural Design Team at Daewoo Engineering, serving the company for one year. In addition, Dr. Chung has served his community as the technical adviser of a number of institutions, including the Ministry of Land at the Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea, the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, the Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation, and the Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation.
Dr. Chung graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology with a PhD in 1998 and a Master of Science in 1993. He also received a Bachelor of Science from the Department of Civil Engineering at Yonsei University in 1991. In 1999, he was certified to practice as a professional engineer of civil engineering structures by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea.
Dr. Chung has presented his technical research at multiple Korea Concrete Institute Conferences. He is a member of the Korea Society of Civil Engineers and executive committee member of both the Korea Concrete Institute and the Earthquake Engineering Society of Korea.
Dr. Chung chose to pursue a career that would provide him with the opportunity to serve his community, protecting the basic foundations of civilization by protecting our means of access to necessary resources by ensuring the safety of our means of transportation from the natural environment and disasters. He found an interest in researching how to make the human environment more comfortable and practical through the physical modification of the land and environment. He majored in structural dynamics and earthquake engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, with a research focus in the research and development of the seismic isolation of the structures using lead rubber bearings.
After graduating from his doctoral program, Dr. Chung began a decades-long career in civil engineering, developing the structural design of civil structures like bridges; his work on lead rubber bearings is now applied to the design and construction of bridges. He has also contributed to the establishment of the national infrastructure-building projects by carrying out a number of basic and detailed design and supervision projects on roads, highways, railways, and subway structures. In addition, he is also working on the development of design and construction technologies, as well as cost reduction techniques, by carrying out construction projects such as light rail, monorail, and highway bridges.
Dr. Chung's current research interests are directed towards the development of Latex modified concrete that can be manufactured at concrete batch plants and a durable and chemical resistant acid-proof hybrid polymer mortar technology. Dr. Chung believes the secret to life's success lies in constant reflection, effort, and luck. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf. He is the son of Bongsang Chung and Jeongja Lee, and has been married to Mikyoung Lee for more than 20 years. Together, they have two children: Yunchul and Yunyoung.
