    MCKINNEY, NY, November 20, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Andre D. Cropper, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An electro-optical, infrared engineering fellow at Raytheon Company since 2013, Dr. Cropper is an accomplished engineer who has spent the majority of his career in aerospace/defense around intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance system requirements, CONOPS, capabilities, development, integration, evaluations, and operations. Known for developing thin layers of laboratory-produced diamond that could be used in the semi-conductor industry, Dr. Cropper first studied at Howard University where he earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with a focus on semi-conductor materials. He began teaching at Norfolk State University from 1989 to 1991, and thanks to an initiative from the Commonwealth of Virginia he was able to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1992 and earned his PhD in 1995.

During the next 20 years, Dr. Cropper lectured at The University of the West Indies at St. Augustine from 1996 to 1997 in his home country of Trinidad and Tobago. Although he planned to stay in an effort to expand the engineering department, he was offered a position back in the United States as a project engineer with Corning Incorporated. He later worked for Kodak, ITT Industries Space Systems Division, and under various contracts for the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Energy, before working for Raytheon.

An elected fellow, former president of the publishing board of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), and former AISES board of directors member, Dr. Cropper is a longtime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the National Society of Black Engineers, and the International Society for Optics and Photonics and also a member of The Optical Society. Locally, he has been involved in a number of organizations such as: a Pillar of Hope Mentor, City of Rochester Mayor's Program for the School District; a US Swimming, Stroke & Turn Official, Niagara region; Graduation Keynote Address at Rochester Institute of Technology, Native American Future Stewards Program; Career Day Invited Speaker at Thornell Road Elementary School in Pittsford, NY; AISES Region 6 Conference Keynote Address at Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY; Past President of the Native American Council at Kodak, Eastman Kodak Company; Vice President of the Black Graduate Student Association at Virginia Tech; President, Graduate Student Council, Howard University; Christ the King Catholic Church as a member of the worship committee; and St. Paul's High School in Freeport, Bahamas, as an invited speaker.

Born in Trinidad, Dr. Cropper moved to the United States in 1978. From an early age he was always fascinated with mathematics and physics and continued to nurture these subjects throughout his secondary education years at Fatima College in Trinidad and Tobago. He was a champion swimmer in his country and represented Trinidad and Tobago in Caribbean, Regional and International Swimming Championships games during the 1970s. During his years at Norfolk State University, Dr. Cropper was the recipient of a Teacher of the Year Award in 1991. He was later named Professional of the Year by AISES in 2014 and was a Hall of Achievement honoree as a Pioneer in the field of Science and Engineering from Fatima College (High School) in Trinidad & Tobago in 2015. He has been cited in Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World.
