An endocrinologist, researcher, and longtime professor at Marshall University's Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in Huntington, WV, Dr. Driscoll is also a staff physician at VAMC and currently serves as chief of the section of endocrinology as well as medical director of the MU Diabetes Center. Board certified in general internal medicine and endocrinology, his research is specific to the immunopathogenesis of diabetes, and have included topics like immunology of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, hormone secretions from pancreatic islets, and actions of retinoids.

Dr. Driscoll has participated in numerous studies regarding diabetes and the mechanisms of pancreatic islet-cell hormone secretion, effects of nutritional deficiency, therapies for diabetes, and thyroid cancer. He has authored and co-authored dozens of articles in academic journals, as well as abstracts, on various topics, including a 2017 abstract called "Does strenuous activity affect the impact of non-severe hypoglycemia on coronary artery calcification?" in Diabetes. He has served as a reviewer for various publications, including the Marshall Journal of Medicine since 2015 and Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy since 2017.

Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences and Master of Science in Nutritional Biochemistry and Metabolism at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Driscoll completed an MD at the University of Massachusetts in 1981, followed by an internship and residency in internal medicine at Roger Williams General Hospital, Brown University, and fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1987. That same year, he was accepted as an assistant professor of medicine at Marshall University. He was promoted to associate professor in 1991 and to full professor in 1996. Dr. Driscoll was director of the internal medicine clerkship from 1994 to 2001, and has served as chair of the institutional review board for human studies since 1998.

An elected fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Driscoll is a member of the Endocrine Society, the West Virginia State Medical Association, and the American Diabetes Association, where he served on the regional board of directors and as regional president. He was honored from 1995 to 1996 as Clinician of the Year for the West Virginia Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association, and served on the board of directors and as vice president and president of the Huntington chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. He was elected a member of the Norval Carter Memorial Medical Society in 2005. Dr. Driscoll has been highlighted in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
