Daniel Chipman Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Chipman is the son of Myron Jesse and Maxine Ruth Chipman. On June 7, 1969, he married Pamela Jo Pease with whom he raised two children--Shannon Eileen and Ian Daniel.

In 1967, Dr. Chipman graduated with a BS from Iowa State University with Honors and with Distinction. He continued his studies at the University of Wisconsin, receiving a PhD in 1972 under the direction of the late professor Joseph O. Hirshfelder. Following his graduation, Dr. Chipman became a post doctoral scholar and lecturer at the University of California, Santa Barbara. From 1974 to 1975, he was a visiting professor at the University of Colorado Boulder. Dr. Chipman worked as an assistant professor at the University of Iowa from 1975 to 1976.

Between 1976 and 1987, Dr. Chipman was a scientist on the faculty at the University of Notre Dame. After working at this university, Dr. Chipman became a program officer of the National Science Foundation between 1987 and 1988. Since 1988, Dr. Chipman has worked as a permanent scientist at Notre Dame until his transition to emeritus status upon his retirement in 2014.

Throughout his career, Dr. Chipman has contributed to his field as the author of a chapter in "Understanding Chemical Reactivity, Volume 13." He also has contributed as author or co-author to more than 100 peer-reviewed articles in various professional journals such as Chemical Reviews, Nature Chemistry, The Journal of the American Chemical Society, The Journal of Chemical Physics, and The Journal of Physical Chemistry, among others.

As an esteemed research chemist and educator, Dr. Chipman is a member of various related organizations, including Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Chi Sigma, Phi Eta Sigma, and Sigma Xi. Between 1966 and 1967, Dr. Chipman was named a George W. Catt Scholar by Iowa State University. He was a Teaching Prize Fellow of the University of Wisconsin from 1967 to 1969.

Dr. Chipman has appeared in various Marquis Who's Who publications, including the 4th, 9th, and 10th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering. He also has been featured in the 55th through 58th and 65th editions of Who's Who in America.
