James Delos Willett Celebrates Almost 60 Years of Experience in Various Scientific Fields

Dr. Willett affiliates himself with the American Association for the Advancement of Science



    MANASSAS, VA, December 07, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James D. Willett has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Backed by nearly 60 years of professional excellence in his field, Dr. Willett was the original Director of the School of Systems Biology at George Mason University, and served as full professor in the departments of molecular biology and microbiology, and bioinformatics and computational biology. He has received the rank of Professor Emeritus at George Mason University. Since the late 1980s, he has also served the University in numerous other roles, including chairman of molecular biology and microbiology, director of operations for biomedical genomics and informatics, assistant director of the Biodefense Center, director of the Cooperative Academic Enterprise Board, acting director of the Computational Sciences and Informatics Institutes, and many more. At the start of his career, he honed his expertise through academic and administrative positions with the National Institutes of Health, the University of Idaho, and the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology.

A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Willett holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, and a PhD in Organic Chemistry. In order to remain active and engaged among his professional circles, he has affiliated himself with the Southeastern Universities Research Association, the American Chemical Society, the American Federation of Teachers, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Throughout his career, he has contributed his knowledge to a number of articles on the topics of lead toxicity on the Caenorhabditis elegans population, and toxicity through metabolic profiling.

Additionally, Dr. Willett has been recognized for his work with eight patents in the field, and the NIH Career Development Award, which was bestowed upon him by the University of Idaho. Since 2010, he has also been honored with inclusion into the 65th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America. In the coming years, Dr. Willett intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career.
