Boasting close to 800 attorneys that represent clients across multiple industries, his firm currently has 34 offices across the United States with one in London. A prominent litigator, Mr. Hyland has a reputation for leading a very successful practice that focuses on the defense of professional liability matters. His practice involves the defense of attorneys, accountants, architects, engineers, brokers, directors, and officers. Mr. Hyland has represented more than 100 law firms throughout the United States, as well as several high-profile institutions in the review and audit of risk management policies and potential exposures. He has also handled major cases in the areas of mass tort, product liability, aviation, property losses, and employment liability.

Outside of the courtroom, Mr. Hyland lectures throughout the country on professional liability, and has taught courses at the University of Houston Law Center, Hunter College, and Hofstra University in the Maurice A. Dean School of Law. He has also served as a guest lecturer numerous times. Prior to joining Wilson, Elser, he served as chief trial counsel for the New York regional office of the Securities and Exchange Commission in New York City from 1975 to 1977, during which time he co-authored the definitive report on the financial collapse of the City of New York. He also spent four years as an assistant district attorney in New York City from 1971 to 1975, where he was responsible for obtaining convictions of eight murder trials and multiple misdemeanor cases.

A member of the New York State Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York Lawyers' Liability review, and the Federal Bar Council, Mr. Hyland is also a fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers since 2005. His is additionally active as a member of the New York Athletic Club and the North Hempstead Country Club in his free time.

Mr. Hyland earned his undergraduate degree in 1965, a JD in 1974 at Fordham University, and an LLM in Intellectual Property at New York University in 1974. He was admitted to practice by the New York Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Eastern, Northern, Southern, and Western Districts of the U.S. District Court of New York, the Second and Ninth Circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Furthermore, he served as a captain in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1974. Mr. Hyland earned 12 decorations for service before his military career ended when he was wounded and retired for physical disability.

Honored by being included in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Law, Mr. Hyland is AV Pre-Eminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, was named to the Fordham University Military Hall of Fame in 2017, was named to Irish Legal 100 by the Irish Voice Newspaper for 2011-2012, was selected for inclusion in the New York Super Lawyers in Professional Liability every year from 2008 to 2017, and received a Child of Peace Award by the Catholic Guardian Society in 2007.
