He currently serves as an associate researcher with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he is tasked with developing applications of computational design methods, electro-active materials, networked multimedia and AI methods of control in design. In addition, for several consecutive years he co-instructed two cross-disciplinary courses entitled "Design without Boundaries" and "Designing Interactions", with WJ Mitchel and F Casalegno, exploring the future of interactions with physical artifacts in the age of computing, taking into consideration design, technological and business aspects, as well as research and design methods. Prior to joining the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a lecturer in 2008, he served as an adjunct professor with the Boston Architectural College for three years. He also briefly served as a lecturer with the Wentworth Institute of Technology from 2014 to 2016. He recently accepted a position as an assistant professor with the National Technical University of Athens in 2017, and an academic advisor position in the Open University of Greece, in Science and Engineering.

Prior to pursuing a career in computational design, Dr. Kotsopoulos received a diploma in Architectural Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in 1992. He went on to complete a Master of Architecture through SCI-Arc in 1994 under a Fulbright scholarship before attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he completed a Master of Science of Architecture in Design Technology in 2000, and a PhD in Design and Computation in 2005.

Outside of his academic appointments, Dr. Kotsopoulos mentors students as the head of design research at NuVu Studio, a full-time innovation school for middle and high school students. In addition, he lectures at academic conferences and has editorial contributions in several international academic Journals and conferences. His book, entitled "Constructing Design Concepts" explores how concepts, whether verbal or schematic, are economical and inclusive means toward the application of a particular order.

Throughout his career, Dr. Kotsopoulos has been continually recognized for his contributions to the field of computational design. He maintains involvement with a wide range of industry-related organizations, including the Association for Computer Aided Design.
