Drawing upon more than 50 years of experience, Dr. Broyles is a widely renowned researcher in the areas of biochemistry and molecular biology. He is noted for his focus on the regulation of gene expression as applied to sickle cell disease, cancer, and neuro- and cardiovascular disease. In addition, Dr. Broyles holds interest in the areas of organ culture techniques, especially applied to the liver, as well as stem cell differentiation and molecular engineering. Since 2011, he has acted as founder and chief science officer of EpimedX, LLC, an Oklahoma-based biotechnology company that was founded with the mission to develop gene regulation therapy, a promising technology that is expected to provide a safe, cost-effective, and permanent treatment for sickle cell disease, beta-thalassemia, and malaria without dangerous or harmful side effects.

Dr. Broyles pursued a scientific career upon graduating from Wake Forrest College with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1965. He went on to complete postgraduate coursework at the Marine Biological Laboratory in 1969. During this time, Dr. Broyles continued attending Wake Forest University, where he completed a PhD in Biochemistry in 1970. He worked as a research associate with the department of chemistry at Florida State University while completing postdoctoral studies between 1970 and 1972.

Since 1977, Dr. Broyles has served as a member of the graduate faculty with the University of Oklahoma. He is a retired professor from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center where he served for over 32 years, 25 years as full professor. Dr. Broyles has delivered nearly 90 invited presentations over the course of 35 years.

Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Broyles has received numerous patents in the areas of gene regulation therapy involving ferritin, as well as abscisic acid and derivatives thereof for the treatment of diseases. He previously received a $100,000 grant from The Gates Foundation, which allowed Dr. Broyles and his research partner, Dr. Robert A. Floyd, to found EpimedX, LLC in 2011. Since then, the company has been noted for breakthroughs in the research of sickle cell disease and malaria, which has led to further funding.

A respected authority in the field of scientific research, Dr. Broyles has contributed numerous articles to professional journals pertaining to his areas of expertise. In addition, he has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including American Men & Women of Science, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World, Men of Achievement and International Directory of Distinguished Leadership. In an effort to remain active and engaged in his areas of research, Dr. Broyles maintains involvement with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Society of Cell Biology and American Society of Biological Chemists, among other industry-related organizations.
