A widely regarded expert in the fields of building and construction, Dr. Kim has served as a professor with the Chungnam National University Department of Architectural Engineering since 2005. Prior to obtaining his current role, he was a senior researcher with Samsung from 2003 to 2005 and as a researcher with the Building Research Institute of Japan from 2000 to 2003.
Dr. Kim has held an interest in construction and building since he was a child. He attended Chungnam National University, where he received a Bachelor of Engineering in 1994. He went on to earn a Master of Engineering in 1996, and Doctor of Engineering in 1999, both with Chungnam National University as well.
Dr. Kim currently serves as the director of the Korea Concrete Institute, Korea Institute of Building Construction, and Korea Institute for Structural Maintenance and Inspection. In addition, he is recognized as an evaluator with the National Research Foundation of Korea and committee member with the Korea Institute of Military Science and Technology. Since 2015, he has been a member of the International Organizing Committee for the International Conference of the Asian Concrete Federation, as well as a member of the Research Committee on Performance Evaluation of Concrete in High Temperature Environment with the Japan Concrete Institute. He previously served as a consultant for the Korea Land & Housing Corporation, and as a committee member with the Architectural Institute of Korea.
In recognition of his achievements in the field of construction, Dr. Kim was awarded a Best Paper Award by the Asian Concrete Federation in 2014. He was previously selected as the recipient of a Best Paper Award by the Japan Concrete Institute in 2007. He has received academic awards from a variety of institutions, including the Korea Institute of Building Construction, Architectural Institute of Korea, Korean Recycled Construction Resources Institute, Korea Institute for Structural Maintenance and Inspection, and Korea Concrete Institute. In 2010, he received a commendation from the Construction Technology Deliberation Committee of the Daejeon Metropolitan City, and he was named Professor of the Year by the Chungnam National University College of Engineering in 2011.
