Jung-Pyo Hong Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Hong was an associate professor of Changwon National University from 1996 to 2006. He joined Hanyang University as a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2006, and has been lecturing in the Department of Automotive Engineering at Hanyang University since 2010. He has an office at the Chung Mong Koo Automotive Research Center and is well-known for his innovations in electrical motor technology. Dr. Hong holds patents for a pole change motor, a single phase line start permanent magnet synchronous motor, a skeleton type brushless direct current motor, and a flux barrier type switched reluctance motor. Dr. Hong also holds patents in electric gear designs for motor speed control, rotor designs and structure for increasing torque and movement, and two-or-four pole rotor structures and design methods for synchronous reluctance motors manufactured using an anisotropy material.

Born in Asan in the Chungnam region of the Republic of Korea, Dr. Hong attended Hanyang University in the capital of Seoul, earning a BS in 1983, a MA in 1985, and a PhD in 1995. As a graduate student, he found employment as an associate researcher with the LG Precision Co. in Anyang, Republic of Korea, and joined Samsung Electro-Mechanics Company in Suwon, Republic of Korea, for two years as a senior researcher.

After earning a PhD, Dr. Hong joined Changwon National University, and has been recognized for his many academic papers. He is the recipient of numerous best paper prizes and a 2000 Academic Prize-Paper from the Korea Institute of Electrical Engineering (KIEE). He participated in over 100 projects with various organizations on electric machines, mainly electric motors, since he joined Hanyang University in 2006. He also received a Special Award in Electric Machine and Energy Conversion System Division from KIEE in 2008. He was a vice president of Electric Powered Automobile field in The Korean Society of Automotive Engineers (KSAE) from 2012 to 2014.

Dr. Hong has been a senior member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 1997 as well as The Korean Magnetics Society. He has been a member of The National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK) since 2013. He has also served as a president of Electric Powered Automobile field in KSAE since 2015. He received the Excel Award from KIEE for best paper in the Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology (JEET) and the Excellent Paper Award from The Korean Magnetics Society in 2017. In addition to his contributions to motor technology, Dr. Hong holds the copyrights to a design for an electro-magnetic field. In his free time, he enjoys fishing and sports.

Dr. Hong has also been selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World, as well as the first and second editions of Who's Who in Asia.
