Hani Najm Recognized for Contributions to Medical Science

Dr. Najm was awarded the 1st Degree Medal from King Abdulaziz Al Saud

    CLEVELAND, OH, February 01, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Hani Najm has been included in Marquis Who's Who. An expert in the medical industry, Dr. Najm has served as chair of pediatric and congenital heart surgery with the Cleveland Clinic since 2016, having served as a visiting surgeon since 2014. In addition, he has been with the King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as a deputy chair since 2008 and as head of cardiac surgery since 2001. In addition, he was the president of the Saudi Heart Association from 2008 to 2011.Earlier in his career, he served as a consultant for adult and pediatric surgery with the hospital from 1999 to 2001. Throughout his career, he has performed more than 5,000 open heart operations and provided surgical care for patients ranging from newborns to older adults.

Dr. Najm began his career at the King Saud University Medical School, obtaining a doctorate in medicine and finishing second in his class in 1985. He went on to join King Khalid University for an internship in pediatrics, obstetrics, and gynecology, and a residency in general surgery. He then traveled to Canada for a residency in general surgery at the Ottawa Civil Hospital, and a cardiothoracic surgery residency at the Toronto Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), where he also served in a fellowship in pediatric and adult cardiac surgery. He is board certified in surgery and cardiothoracic surgery.

A respected voice in his field, Dr. Najm has been recognized numerous times for his contributions, including being awarded the 1st Degree Medal from King Abdulaziz Al Saud in 2008. Toronto Hospital commended him with the Senior Resident Award in 1994 and the Resident Research Prize in 1992, and the University of Ottawa named him as an Outstanding Resident Teacher in 1993. He earned the 1998 Best Research in the Diesenhaus Meetings from the Hospital for Sick Children's Research Day. He has presented his research around the world and has received numerous awards for these presentations, including multiple Best Presentation awards from the Annual Saudi Medical Meeting and the 1997 Best Presentation in the Annual Sick Children Hospital Department of Surgery's Research Competition. Looking toward the future, Dr. Najm hopes to finish the process of patenting a new valve.
