Haynsworth IV, JD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Renowned for his expertise in law and education, Mr. Haynsworth boasts more than five decades of experience in his position as the dean emeritus at the William Mitchell College of Law, now the Mitchell Hamline School of Law, which he has held since 2004. He started his professional journey as an associate of Haynsworth, Perry, Bryant, Marion & Johnstone in 1964, and was promoted to partner five years later. In 1971, Mr. Haynsworth decided to use his experience to help the younger generations as an associate professor of law at the University of South Carolina, and proceeded to serve the institution as a professor, associate dean and acting dean. He then became counsel to Nexson, Pruet, Jacobs & Pollard, dean and professor of law at Southern Illinois University, dean and president of William Mitchell College of Law and counsel of Briggs & Morgan.
Mr. Haynsworth prepared for his endeavors by earning a Master of Arts in religion from the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary - Lenoir-Rhyne University in 1989, a JD from Duke University in 1964, and a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University in 1961. He also completed postgraduate studies at the Law Center at the University of Denver in 1972, and was subsequently admitted to the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court and the state of Minnesota in 2005, as well as the state of South Carolina in 1965.

With such an extensive background, Mr. Haynsworth often looked for new ways to share his knowledge with his peers. He has authored two editions of comments for the South Carolina Consumer Protection Code, "Organizing a Small Business Entity" and "Marketing and Legal Ethics: The Rules and Risks," and served on the editorial board of the American Bar Association Journal. He was also a member of several committees through the American Bar Association and the South Carolina Bar Association, and was a visiting professor of the University of Leeds in England, a commissioner of the National Conference Commissioners on Uniform State Laws and a member of the South Carolina Legislature Consumer Law Committee. In his community, he used his talents in positions such as chairman of the board of the South Carolina Commission for the Blind, member of the board of directors of the Greenville County Hosing Commission, vice president and director of the United Speech and Hearing Center, and trustee of Heatherwood Hall, the Minnesota Zoo and the Episcopalian Diocese of Minnesota.

Mr. Haynsworth's hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed. He was featured in 22 editions of Who's Who in America, seven editions each of Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in the Midwest, five editions of Who's Who in American Law, four editions of Who's Who in American Education and three editions of Who's Who in the South and Southwest. He was granted an honorary LLD from the William Mitchell College of Law in 2004.
