Ruth Naomi Sandberg Celebrated for Excellence in Religious Education

Dr. Sandberg is the author of "Development and Discontinuity in Jewish Law"



Her primaries areas of expertise include classical rabbinic theology, as well as in Jewish-Christian relations, particularly between Rabbinic Judaism and early Christianity.

    MELROSE PARK, PA, February 12, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ruth N. Sandberg has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Sandberg has served as the director of Jewish-Christian Studies and as the Leonard and Ethel Landau Professor of Rabbinics at Gratz College since 1985. In addition to her primary roles, she was the dean of students from 2006 to 2008, and she teaches in the Scholars Program for Adult Education. Prior to joining the institution, she was the director of education at Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel from 1979 to 1983. Her primaries areas of expertise include classical rabbinic theology, as well as in Jewish-Christian relations, particularly between Rabbinic Judaism and early Christianity.

Dr. Sandberg began her career as a student at Bryn Mawr College, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Greek and the history of religion in 1973. She went on to study at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, receiving a rabbinic ordination in 1978. She later returned to her studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a PhD in post-biblical Hebrew literature, specializing in rabbinics, in 1988.

A respected voice in the field, Dr. Sandberg is affiliated with a number of professional organizations. She is a member of the board of directors of the Institute for Jewish-Catholic Relations at St. Joseph's University, and she is co-president of the Cheltenham Area Multifaith Council. In addition, she has contributed to a number of written works, including the books "Rabbinic Views of Qohelet" and "Development and Discontinuity in Jewish Law." She has also lent her expertise to a chapter of "The Words of the Wise Are Like Goads: Engaging Qoheleth in the 21st Century." Looking toward the future, Dr. Sandberg intends to see the growth of the interfaith program she leads.
