Experimac Offers Tips and Tricks for Technology Efficiency for National Clean Out Your Computer Day, Feb. 12

WEST PALM BEACH, FL, February 12, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Is your Apple* computer running slower than it used to? Have you backed it up recently? What if your iPhone died today or your trusty MacBook suddenly stopped working? With the volumes of photos, music, and valuable personal information most people store on their computers, tablets, and phones, loss of this data could be a tragedy. Experimac, the retail leader in the sales and service of pre-owned Apple computers, iPhone devices, and iPad tablets, offers tips and best practices to keep your computer running as efficiently as possible, with some proactive steps you can take to safeguard your data in celebration of National Clean Out Your Computer Day.

Update--make sure your devices are as up to date as possible. Download the latest updates from Apple and ensure you're always on the latest iOS for the best, most efficient device with maximum protection from bugs and malware. If you are running an operating system that is more than two generations behind, you are most likely not receiving critical security updates. Tip: plug your phone or iPad into the computer for faster updates than over Wi-Fi. Also, completely shut down and restart your phone to refresh it at least once a week.

Backup--at least once a month, back up your device. Whether you back up to an external hard drive, to your computer via iTunes, or to the Cloud, regular backups are extremely important. Sadly, too many people have lost valuable family photos or company data due to not having their device properly backed up.

Delete--delete apps, music, videos and photos you no longer need. On your Mac, dump all of the unused files in your Downloads folder. Consider deleting your email app completely, then re-download the app and log in anew. This clears out backlogged storage space your email program can hog. Delete text conversations with GIFs, photos and videos, and clear your browser history.

Transfer--photos and music can take up enormous amounts of storage on your device. Utilize iCloud by optimizing your photo and video storage on your iPhone and Mac by storing data in your iCloud Photo Library. If you don't already have an external hard drive, most are easily connected via a simple USB cord. For further protection, consider storing your external drive in a fire safe when not being actively used for a backup.

"Phones, tablets, and computers break or stop working unexpectedly every day, and sometimes the information on those devices is irretrievable," said Jim Muir, President of Experimac. "Regular maintenance of your electronic devices is as important as maintaining your car or your home. Experimac representatives are happy to help you clean up and back up any Apple product - and Experimac won't charge you a dollar to examine your Apple devices and make a suggestion for how you could improve them."
