Dr. Thompson has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the education industry

CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND, February 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present David Michael Thompson, Ph.D., BD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Thompson celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Focusing on the history of Christianity, Dr. Thompson is a widely regarded emeritus professor with the University of Cambridge. For more than five decades, he has held a particular interest in how churches work as institutions. Since the inception of his career, Dr. Thompson has taken great pride in his role as a leader in the unification of the Churches of Christ with the United Reformed Church (1981). He looks forward to his continued involvement in the task of ecumenisim, which he acknowledges will take a considerable amount of time to achieve. As a researcher and former professor of modern church history, Dr. Thompson warns against the dangers of division in the church and the consequences that could arise as a result.

Dr. Thompson completed formal education through the University of Cambridge, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1964, Master of Arts in 1968, Ph.D. in 1969, and Bachelor of Divinity in 1986. During this time, he developed an interest in exploring the link between theory and life. Although the sociology of church life was considered a fringe subject at the time, it has since grown to become a central field of study. Upon completing a Ph.D. through the University of Cambridge, Dr. Thompson joined the university as a lecturer in history and secured a fellowship after just one year of research. Over the course of 50 years, he has served the University of Cambridge in a wide range of capacities, including as a reader in modern church history, president of Fitzwilliam College, director of the Center for Advanced Religions and Theological Studies, and professor of modern church history. Dr. Thompson has been recognized as an emeritus professor since 2009.

A respected voice in his fields of expertise, Dr. Thompson has authored numerous publications, including "Baptism, Church and Society in Modern Britain," "Cambridge Theology in the Nineteenth Century" and "Nonconformity in the Nineteenth Century." His most recent publication, entitled "Religious Life in Mid-19th-Century Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire," was published in 2014. In addition, Dr. Thompson has been credited as an editor of "Stating the Gospel" and "Protestant Nonconformist Texts Volume 4: The Twentieth Century." He has also served as a general editor for the European section of the latest edition of the Oxford Dictionary of the Church.

A fellow of the Royal Historical Society, Dr. Thompson has served as an Ecumenical Canon of Ely Cathedral (2011-2016). For four years, he was also recognized as the president of the World Convention of Churches of Christ (2000-2004). In addition, Dr. Thompson has worked as moderator of the Disciples Ecumenical Consultative Council (1999-2007) and General Assembly of the United Reformed Church (1996-97). Dr. Thompson has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including more than a dozen editions of Who's Who in the World.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, David Michael Thompson, Ph.D., BD, has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
