Subhashie Wijemanne Celebrates More Than Five Years of Experience in Neurology

Prior to that, she was faculty at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA. She has been a board certified Neurologist by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology since 2012.

Dr. Wijemanne began her career by obtaining her medical degree MBBS with Honors from the University of Peradeniya - Sri Lanka in 2000. She went on to obtain post graduate training in Internal Medicine MD (2001-2004) and Neurology (2004-2005) at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. She received membership in the Royal College of Physicians, London in 2007. She then traveled to the United States to complete an internship in Internal Medicine at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts (2008-2009) before going on to her Neurology Residency at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts (2009-2012). She completed her fellowship in Movement Disorders under the guidance of world-renowned Dr. Joseph Jankovic at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas (2012-2015). She has expertise in deep brain stimulation surgery, botulinum toxin injection, and baclofen pump therapy.

Dr. Wijemanne has been recognized many times for her work in the field. She earned the Barr Kumara Kulasinghe Memorial Prize in Surgery in 2000. She served as Chief Resident at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts (2011-2012). She is actively involved in patient care, clinical research and teaching. She has multiple first author publications in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and presentations at international conferences. She is an invited speaker in the field of movement disorders, and is an ad hoc reviewer for multiple neurology journals. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society and the Texas Neurological Society.
