David Fakunle Celebrated for Excellence as a Community Leader

Dr. Fakunle entered a fellowship with Morgan State University in 2018



    BALTIMORE, MD, February 23, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Fakunle has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

As a leader in his community, Dr. Fakunle serves in a number of roles. In 2013, he became the co-founder, chief executive officer and narrative epidemiologist of DiscoverME/RecoverME, and he has been a staff member for Delegate Dan K. Morhaim with the Assembly of Maryland since 2015. He has been an instructor and performer with the Enoch Pratt Free Library and an excursion conductor with Renaissance Productions & Tours since 2007, as well as a performing artist with Wombwork Productions since 2001. In addition, he was an instructor with the Baltimore Youth Initiative High School from 2014 to 2016, a social insurance specialist with the U.S. Social Security Administration from 2010 to 2013, and a research analyst with the Fors Marsh Group from 2009 to 2010. From 2007 to 2009, he was a counseling assistant with the Community and Family Resource Center, and he was an instructor with Baltimore Freedom School in 2006.

Dr. Fakunle first studied at the University of Maryland, College Park, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Criminology & Criminal Justice in 2009, serving as a research intern with the Rutgers University Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research in 2008. He later earned a PhD in mental health with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2017.

As a respected voice in the field, Dr. Fakunle has been recognized numerous times for his contributions, earning delegate status through the American Express Leadership Academy Alumni Summit, and the honor of Emerging Nonprofit Leader through the Academy's Aspen Institute fellowship program. He held a predoctoral fellowship with the Drug Dependence Epidemiology Program from 2013 to 2017, a Policy, Community, and Outreach Fellowship with the Baltimore City Health Department from 2016 to 2017, and he began a postdoctoral research fellowship with Morgan State University in 2018. However, he takes the greatest pride in helping to provide aid to recovery from societal traumas, and helping divested communities. Looking toward the future, Dr. Fakunle intends to continue dismantling systems of oppression and balance out injustices to allow people opportunities to be the best versions of themselves through DiscoverME/RecoverME.
