A state legislator, businessman, and attorney, Mr. Rose, currently of the Mike Rose Law Firm, PC, in Summerville, SC, served as a State Senator from 1988 to 1997 and during 2008-2012. Active in the Republican Party, which he represented in various positions at the county and district levels, he was a delegate for the State of South Carolina to the 2016 National Republican Party Convention. He grew up in Whitley County, Kentucky, where he attended elementary school in a rural one-room schoolhouse where he skipped two grades, and in what is now considered North Charleston, SC, and has lived in Summerville for more than thirty years.

A graduate of the United States Air Force Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs in 1969, New York University School of Law with a JD in 1973 and the Harvard Business School with a Master of Business Administration in 1981, Mr. Rose was the recipient of an Honorary PhD in Public Administration from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, in 2010. After exiting the Air Force Academy, Mr. Rose served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, reaching the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He is the President of the Air Force Academy Association of Graduates Chapter and Vice President of the Harvard Club in South Carolina.

Mr. Rose has been admitted to practice by the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the California Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, the Minnesota Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Military Appeals, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and various federal and appellate courts. He is a former attorney with Robins, Davis & Lyons. Having served as a guest lecturer at various universities and professional organizations during the course of his career as well as an editor for the New York University Law Review, he has also contributed articles to professional journals in his field of expertise. He is the lead plaintiff in a successful landmark United States Supreme Court decision regarding the Freedom of Information Act, cited at 425 U.S. 352 (1976).

An AV-rated attorney and admitted to the Bar Register of Pre-eminent Lawyers through Martindale-Hubbell, Mr. Rose has received numerous accolades throughout his career. An Eagle Scout at age 14, he received the Order of the Palmetto, the highest award of the State of South Carolina, in 1987 from Republican Governor Carroll A. Campbell, Jr. He earned a 1994 Distinguished Service Award from the National Association for Uniformed Services, a 1991 Friend of Taxpayer Award by the South Carolina Taxpayers Association, and a 1991 Leadership with Ethics Reform Award by the Common Cause. Additionally, he was an honoree for Most Conservative Senator by the South Carolina Policy Council in 1991, and an honoree for Outstanding State Legislator by the American Legislative Exchange Council in 1990. He also received an Air Force Commendation Award for his time served in the military, and has been highlighted in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Politics, and Who's Who in the South and Southwest 10 times. Mr. Rose was featured by CBS's 60 Minutes, and was the subject of a case study by the Harvard Business School used in a course entitled "Power and Influence."
Responsible for establishing the Adopt-A-Cow program in 1986 after a drought in the state of South Carolina, which distributed seed and hay to farmers to help rescue their herds, Mr. Rose then served as director of the Farmers Assistance Relief Mission Inc. in Summerville. Known locally for his volunteerism, Mr. Rose is active with the Bethany United Methodist Church. He is also a former project director for the entrepreneurship center at the University of Charleston, and a former member of the Summerville Noon Lions Club, the Goose Creek Rotary Club, and the Summerville Elks Lodge. Married to Vivian Osborn since May 1985, Mr. Rose and she share two children and three grandchildren.
