Barbara Janson Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    DEDHAM, MA, February 27, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Barbara Janson with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Janson celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. With more than 40 years of professional experience, Ms. Janson has served as the president of Janson Associates since 1996. Prior to this, she was the founder and chief executive officer of Janson Publications from 1985 to 1996, publishing ground-breaking mathematics textbooks. She also served as the director of publication for the American Mathematical Society from 1978 to 1985. Earlier in her career, she worked as a mathematics teacher at the high school and community college levels.

Ms. Janson began her career as a student at Iowa State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and psychology in 1965. She went on to study at Trinity College-Hartford, completing a Master of Science in mathematics in 1970. She later earned a Master of Business Administration in marketing and finance with the University of Rhode Island in 1982. She is a certified teacher in Iowa, New York, and Connecticut. An amateur artist, Ms. Janson also studied at the Rhode Island School of Design.

In addition to her professional roles, Ms. Janson is active with a number of other organizations. She is an overseer for the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Boston Ballet, member of the international cancer advisory board of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and a visiting committee member for American art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She is a member of the Iowa State University (ISU) Foundation Ventures, member and board of director of the ISU Foundation, member of the ISU mathematics advisory council, and member of the ISU dean's advisory council in the college of liberal arts and sciences. She also was a member of the ISU Foundation Investment Committee, overseeing management of the ISU Foundation Endowment, from 2009-2017, and chair of the committee from 2012-2016. She served as a member of the Rhode Island Legislative Commission for Mathematics and Science Education, was on the oversight committee for the Resources for Mathematics Reform through the Educational Development Center, was a member of the advisory committee for the Rhode Island State Systemic Initiative in Mathematics and Science, and was on the steering committee for the American Math Project. She is a former expert panel member of materials development with the National Science Foundation and former editor of "Scholarly Publishing: Managing Today, Planning for Tomorrow."

A member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the League of Women Voters, the Society for Scholarly Publishing where she served on the board of directors, the New York Academy of Science, and the American Mathematical Society, Ms. Janson also has been involved in matters of local community. She served on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island, as an advisory member of the Rhode Island State Council on Libraries, and as a member of the First Parish Church in Beverly, MA.

Ms. Janson has received several awards for her efforts, including a the 2018 ISU Distinguished Alumni Award, an the Outstanding Alumni Award from the ISU mathematics department in 2009, and a Mortar Board Award from ISU in 1965, as well as an Ernst & Young Rhode Island Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1987. The proud mother of two children, Ms. Janson has been featured in nearly 30 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, and Who's Who in the World.
