Sarah Douglas Celebrates 15 Years of Practiced Experience in Women, Peace and Security

ASTORIA, NY, March 07, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sarah Douglas has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An expert in the field of gender and international development, Ms. Douglas has worked in a variety of roles with the United Nations since 2003. She was named Deputy Chief of UN Women's Peace and Security section, having served as a gender advisor in the UN Peacebuilding Support Office from 2016. From 2010 to 2016, she worked as UN Women's Peacebuilding and Recovery Specialist, and she served in the Sudan DDR Programme from 2006 to 2010 for both the UN Mission in Sudan and the UN Development Programme. She began her career with the United Nations as an information analyst from 2003 to 2006 at the former UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). She has published widely on the subject of women's participation in peacebuilding and authored several seminal UN policy documents on incorporating gender issues into post-conflict recovery processes.

Ms. Douglas pursued a Bachelor's degree in women's studies and English literature at the University of Michigan, going on to earn a Master's degree in gender and development at the London School of Economics in 2002. Inspired to pursue a career with the United Nations by her parents who both worked with the organization, she was especially encouraged by her mother who broke gender barriers throughout her working life. In addition, she is driven by the impact of conflict around the world on vulnerable populations, particularly women and children, and motivated by the transformative potential of feminist approaches to global security challenges.

Ms. Douglas intends to continue her career in the United Nations, working towards gender equality goals in conflict and post conflict contexts. She desires to continue to grow within the organization at the global and country levels and break gender barriers in the male-dominated upper positions within the UN.
