Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Mac Donald served as an electronics engineer for the U.S. Department of the Navy from 2007 to 2010, a pilot and flight engineer for Delta Airlines from 1991 to 2000, and both a pilot and flight engineer for Pan American World Airways from 1985 to 1991. In addition, Mr. Mac Donald spent a brief period of time teaching as an adjunct professor of economics at Southern Lake Tahoe Community College in 2001.

In preparation for his illustrious career, Mr. Mac Donald sought a formal education, first obtaining a Bachelor of Science in general studies from the University of Rochester in 1963. Thereafter, he lent his service to the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam between 1963 and 1968. He subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration from Florida International University in 1983, followed by a Master of Arts in economics from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 2002. Mr. Mac Donald completed his education with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 2007.

A longtime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Mr. Mac Donald has authored several papers pertaining to his areas of expertise, including "Capitalization can be Optimized, Socialism Can Not be Optimized" and "Determination of how the three dimensional position, the course line and possibly the speed of a signal source can be determined by the detection of a single signal from that source," which was subsequently copyrighted. He has additionally developed patents for such devices as a linear induction generator and an electrical savings method that would reduce the cost of electricity by 30 percent.

Throughout the duration of his impressive career, Mr. Mac Donald has further earned several accolades in recognition of his exceptional contributions to his military service. He has been the recipient of the Decorated Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal from the U.S. Navy, as well as two Air Medals from the U.S. Navy. However, the highlight of his career was when he engaged hostile aircrafts in combat during the Vietnam War, thereby successfully out-maneuvering enemy forces and saving the lives of his crewmembers.

Attributing his success to his thesis advisor in economics, Dr. Mark Pingle, Mr. Mac Donald delved into the field of engineering as a result of his proficiency in mathematics and desire to implement his skills on a regular basis. Throughout his career, he has continuously learned the importance of being ambitious, passionate, and willing to help others.
