Alexander V. Ljubimov, PhD, DSc, Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Ljubimov currently serves the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center as the director of the Regenerative Medicine Institute Eye Program, professor of biomedical sciences and neurosurgery, and collaborative member of the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Center. In addition to these responsibilities, he also holds the position of adjunct professor of medicine step VI at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles. For the past 15 years, he has acted as a research scientist IV at the Ophthalmology Research Laboratories at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

From 2009 to 2013, Dr. Ljubimov served the institute as a professor of surgery, and from 2002 to 2013, he acted as the director of the Ophthalmology Research Laboratories and the Diabetic Eye Disease Laboratory. From 1999 to 2002, he acted as the associate director of the institute's Molecular Eye Research Laboratory. In 1993, he served as a research scientist II, and in 1998, he was promoted to the position of research Scientist III. He began his career in the sciences as a staff scientist at the Cancer Research Center in Moscow in 1979, subsequently serving the center until 1993 as a junior researcher and then leading researcher of the center's Institute of Carcinogenesis.

Dr. Ljubimov received a Doctor of Science in Experimental Oncology from the Cancer Research Center in Moscow in 1991 and graduated from the Russian Cancer Research Center with a PhD in Experimental Oncology in 1979; his research focused on the study of surface adhesive properties of normal transformed fibroblasts in culture. He received a Master of Sciences in biochemistry, summa cum laude, from Moscow State University in 1974 and graduated as the valedictorian of his class. He continued his studies as a postgraduate student at the Cancer Research Center at the Academy of Medical Sciences in Moscow from 1974 to 1977, and as a postdoctoral fellow and visiting scientist at the La Jolla Cancer Research Foundation.

Dr. Ljubimov is a member of the editorial boards of Frontiers of Bioscience, Experimental Eye Research, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, The Open Ophthalmology Journal, Brain Research Bulletin, Molecular Vision, Scientific Reports, PLoS One, Progress in Retinal and Eye Research, and Experimental Biology and Medicine. He has also published numerous articles in professional journals and holds patents for cancer research and angiogenesis. He is a member of the International Society of Eye Research and the American Diabetes Association.

Dr. Ljubimov is an overseas fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (London) and a Gold Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He was honored as a postdoctoral research training fellow of the International Agency for Research on Cancer in France from 1982 to 1983. From 1991 to 1992 he worked in The La Jolla Cancer Research Foundation sponsored by the American Cancer Society-Eleanor Roosevelt Fellowship from the International Union Against Cancer. He was also honored as the recipient of the American Society of Cell Biology Travel Fellowship in 1991.

Dr. Ljubimov has received multiple awards and commendations for his accomplishments as a reputable and established member of his field. Since 1998, he was honored as a grantee of the National Institutes of Health. He was also commended with the Young Investigator Award by the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in 1998. He has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in the World.

Dr. Ljubimov is married to Dr. Julia Y. Ljubimova, professor at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He has two children: Anna A. and Vladimir A.
