HONOLULU, HI, March 12, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Harm-Jan Steenhuis has been included in Marquis Who's Who. An expert in the field, Dr. Steenhuis has been a professor of management and international business and chair of the MBA program with Hawaii Pacific University since 2015, and as of 2017 he has been the coordinator for HPU's AACSB accreditation efforts. Prior to obtaining these roles, he worked as a professor of management at Eastern Washington University from 2010 to 2015, having been an associate professor and chair of the department of management from 2006 to 2010, and an assistant professor of management from 2002 to 2006.
Dr. Steenhuis began his career in the Netherlands at the University of Twente, obtaining a Propaedeutic Degree in applied physics in 1990. He went on to earn an MS in industrial engineering and management with a specialization in business management in non-western countries in 1994, and a PhD in industrial engineering and management and international technology transfer in 2000. While pursuing his MS degree, he lived in India to complete a project acting as a consultant for a small electronics company and for his PhD degree he lived in Romania studying the transfer of aircraft production technology. After graduating, he traveled to the United States to study at North Carolina State University in a postdoctoral position with a focus on industry-university technology transfer.
A respected voice in the industry, Dr. Steenhuis has published two books and more than 130 articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings in the areas of international operations, international technology transfer, and technological and economic development related to innovation and clusters, strategic operations and global supply chains, and the interface of instructor and student learning. In 2017 he was identified among the top 99 authors in education research globally in 'Key authors in business and management education research: productivity, topics and future directions' published in the Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education.
He also serves as the editor in chief of the "Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management" and the "International Journal of Information and Operations Management Education." Additionally, he serves on the editorial board of the "International Journal of Innovation and Technology Management" and "IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management". Furthermore, he serves on the International Association for Management of Technology board of directors, has been on its executive committee since 2012, and since 2016 serves on the PICMET (Portland International Conference on Management of Engineering and Technology) executive committee.
Dr. Steenhuis has been recognized numerous times for his contributions. He has been a guest lecturer at multiple international institutions, and has held workshops on topics related to his field of expertise. He was recognized with multiple awards for his outstanding professorship, including Professor of the Year Awards in 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2012 by Eastern Washington University. Dr. Steenhuis attributes his success to being in the right place at the right time, a stimulating environment, a bit of luck, as well as self-discipline and self-organization.
