An esteemed figure in the field of higher education with more than 45 years of experience in the industry, Dr. Wright served as the associate director of information, instruction, and resource services with Howard University from 1998 until her retirement in 2015. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Wright's other administrative positions at Howard University included the assistant director of information, research, and resource development from 1996 to 1998, the assistant director for collection management and branch library services from 1991 to 1995, and the coordinator of collection development from 1989 to 1991. Dr. Wright was additionally a supervisor of reference and an associate librarian in the reference department from 1983 to 1989, and from 1982 to 1983, respectively.

To prepare for her illustrious career, Dr. Wright first earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Indiana University Bloomington in 1967. She subsequently received a Master of Library Science from Rutgers University in 1969, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Maryland in 1984.

Dr. Wright launched her career as an assistant science librarian at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge in 1969. While in Massachusetts, she served as president of the Cambridge YWCA from 1973 to 1975. She worked at Meredith College (the largest college for women in the southeastern United States) during the 1975-1976 Academic Year, then relocated to Maryland where she pursued doctoral studies. Once appointed to the University Libraries at Howard, Dr. Wright served on numerous committees that focused on technology and learning, information literacy, assessment of learning, curriculum review, reaccreditation, and service effectiveness. She was an adjunct lecturer for the College of Library and Information Science at the University of Maryland in 1986-1987 and 2000-2001. In addition, she was a field reviewer with the Institute of Museum and Library Services in Washington, D.C., from 1998 to 2002, a member of the National Advisory Committee for the ERIC Clearinghouse on Teaching and Teacher Education from 1999-2003, and the ERIC Library Committee at the U.S. Department of Education from 2010 to 2012. Dr. Wright was a member of the Association of College and Research Libraries' Research Committee from 1985 to 1989, and a member of the American Library Association Committee on Accreditation from 2010 to 2014. She was the founder and director of the Howard University Cybercamp in Washington, D.C., from 1998 to 2002, and an implementation team member and mentor for the Chesapeake Information Research Library Alliance (CIRLA) Fellows Program from 2003 to 2006.

Alongside her academic endeavors, Dr. Wright has dedicated her time and efforts to her faith. Consecrated as a diaconal minister of the United Methodist Church in 1996, and ordained as deacon in 1999, Dr. Wright served as co-chair of the Task Force on Children and Poverty from 1998 to 2004, chair of the Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry from 2004 to 2012, and member of the Board of Directors of the Susanna Wesley House from 2012 to 2014. Furthermore, she is a member of the National Council of Negro Women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

In recognition of her professional achievements, Dr. Wright was the recipient of a doctoral fellowship from the University of Maryland from 1977 to 1980. She was also awarded a youth outreach grant from the Morino Institute from 1998 to 1999. Most recently, Dr. Wright received the James Partridge Outstanding African American Information Professional Award from the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland in 2016.

Since retirement, Dr. Wright has conducted part-time work as a program resource associate for the General Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church with research focused on domestic violence, maternal health, human trafficking, and bullying. The wife of the Reverend Obie Wright for more than 45 years, Dr. Wright has one adult son. She enjoys singing and playing piano in her spare time.
