Her mother was an illustrator for Harper's Bazaar and was an inspiration and guiding influence to Ms. Oritsky over the course of her career. A highlight of Ms. Oritsky's career was receiving the Purchase Award by the Reading Public Museum in 1984. This commendation made her mother, who was very sick at the time, very proud. That was an exciting moment for Ms. Oritsky, but also sad because her mother had just passed away. It was a very memorable and meaningful experience in Ms. Oritsky's life.
