An associate professor at Hanyang University in the Center for Integrated General Education in the College of Engineering, Dr. Yoon was first hired to teach in the division of mechanical engineering in 2010. An exceptional educator and mentor, he formerly taught as an adjunct lecturer of mechanical engineering at The City College of New York in the United States in 2005, and later spent one year as a visiting assistant professor at Myongji University in the Graduate School of Industrial Technology in 2009.
A certified engineer-in-training through the state of New Hampshire in the United States, Dr. Yoon first earned a Bachelor of Engineering in engineering at Myongji University in 1996 and a Master of Engineering in mechanical engineering, a Master of Philosophy, and Doctor of Philosophy in engineering at The City College of New York in 2001, 2003 and 2005, respectively. He then completed postdoctoral studies in mechanical engineering at The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2006 and in orthopedic surgery at Washington University in St. Louis in 2008.
Dr. Yoon has contributed over 20 articles to peer-reviewed journals in the field of engineering, was on the editorial board for the Journal of Korean Society of Information Electronic Communication Sciences and KICS and has contributed close to 50 conference proceedings in his field as well. He is an active member of both the Korea Society for Precision Engineering and Manufacturing and KICS.
Entering academia due to his love of interacting with students, Dr. Yoon was honored with two teaching awards from The City College of New York, both of which were nominated by the student councils. He has also since received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the student chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society for his classroom expertise. In addition to his teaching awards, Dr. Yoon earned a Sue Rosenber Zalk Student Travel and Research Fund and Ph.D. Alumni Association Dissertation Support Fund Award from The City College of New York in 1999, 2001, and 2004, followed by a USGY Award from the college in 2005, a Best Paper Award from the Korea Information and Communication Society (KICS) in 2009 and from 2012 to 2013, and two Research Grants from the Korea Research Foundation in 2010 and 2015.
