Kjell Fuxe Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

A professor emeritus of histology at Karolinska Institutet since 2005, Dr. Fuxe has made a substantial impact upon both his students and colleagues. Prior to his retirement, he served as a full professor of histology at Karolinska Institutet from 1979 to 2005, an associate professor from 1968 to 1979, and an assistant professor from 1965 to 1968. In addition, he was employed as a researcher for the Swedish Medical Research Council in 1966.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Dr. Fuxe has served as a guest professor and lecturer for various academic institutions around the world, including in the Institute of Psychopharmacology at the University of Heidelberg in Germany in 2012, Universitat de Barcelona in Spain from 1992 to 1995, Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in the United States in 1986, and Collège de France in France in 1983.

In preparation for his prolific career, Dr. Fuxe pursued formal education, first earning a Bachelor of Arts in medicine from Karolinska Institutet in 1959. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Philosophy in 1965 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1971 with the school. He has since been recognized with honorary doctorates from Universidad de Málaga in 2007, University of Ferrara in 2002, Universitat de Barcelona in 1998, and Université Claude Bernard in 1992. Furthermore, he was awarded honorary doctorates from the Albert Einstein International Academy Foundation in 1993 and the Marquis Giuseppe Scicluna International University Foundation in 1988.

An expert in the healthcare industry, Dr. Fuxe maintains affiliation with several professional organizations, including the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, where he has been an emeritus fellow since 2010. He has been a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences since 2013, the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology since 2012, the World Federation of Neurology Committee for Research on Parkinsonism and Related Disorders since 2001, the Swedish Movement Society since 2000, and the American Parkinson Disease Association from 1983 to 1995. He was named a lifetime member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences in 1980, was a member of the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet, and was named a lifetime member of the Academia Europaea in 1989.

A respected voice in the field, Dr. Fuxe has been a contributor of numerous articles to professional journals and editor of more than 20 books, and he has been honored with numerous accolades throughout his impressive career. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Camillo Golgi Medical Award from the Golgi Foundation, as well as the Grant Award from Fundacio La Marato de TV3 in 2009. In addition, he was awarded the Rapid Response Innovation Award by the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research in 2007, honored with the Palay Award in Structural Neuroscience from the Cajal Club in 2006, and was the recipient of the Neuropsychopharmacology Award from the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology in 2003.

Furthermore, Dr. Fuxe has been awarded with several medals and honors internationally, including the Charles Medal in Prague in 1999, the Humboldt Prize Award in Germany in 1998, the Silver Medal from the University of Modena in Italy in 1996, The Fishberg Professorship Award from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in the United States in 1993, and the IPSEN Prize in France in 1992. He has also been the recipient of the Alfred Nobel Medal for Peace and the Bronze Medal Award from the Albert Einstein Academy Foundation in 1991 and 1990, respectively. However, he considers the highlight of his career receiving multiple honorary doctorates from international universities. Married to Lisbeth Fuxe since 1968, Dr. Fuxe is the proud father of three children and grandfather of ten grandchildren. He has been listed in the 12th and 19th editions of Who's Who in the World.
