Ms. Brown has been Alaska's Deputy State Forester since 1990, a role in which she leads state and federal programs in wildland firefighting, aviation and forest resources. With a background in mining, oil and gas, water management, land management and agriculture, she has been involved in several important milestones in Alaska's history, including the Beirne initiative, navigability determinations, sealift operations at Prudhoe Bay, and record fire years in 2004 and 2015. She was recognized as Incident Commander at the National Association of State Foresters' annual meeting in 2006, and received a medal from the Department of State Foreign Service Institute executive leadership program. In addition to serving on the Governor's Disaster Policy Cabinet, she has been affiliated with the Statewide Emergency Response Commission since 1996 and the Alaska Wildland Fire Coordinating Group since 1994.

Ms. Brown's career has included time spent in academia as an adjunct professor at two universities. She was also a field construction engineer on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and geologist in a number of states. A charter member of the Pacific Rim Arabian Horse Association, she was on the board of directors for the Alaska Horse Breeders Association from 1984 to 1990.

In addition to her status as a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Ms. Brown earned an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources and certificates of appreciation from a local 4-H club, the Anchorage School District, and the city of Valdez, AK.
