Dr. Terman is a physician, cancer researcher and inventor of cancer therapeutics. He is Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at University of Alabama School of Medicine. Additionally, he served as tenured associate professor of medicine, microbiology, and immunology at the Baylor College of Medicine from 1981-1984 where he founded and directed the Cancer Biology Program. He was an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Colorado from 1976 to 1981. He also founded and presently serves as President of Azore, a non-profit corporation supporting development of innovative cancer therapeutics.

Dr. Terman received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and international relations from Syracuse University in 1962 and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1966. After graduating, he continued his medical training in internal medicine at University of Alabama Hospital, completing internship and residency in 1968. He subsequently served as a fellow in cancer immunology and nephrology at the University of Colorado from 1968 to 1971 and in private practice of nephrology from 1984 to 1997. He is licensed to practice medicine in California.

Dr. Terman has authored more than 75 peer-reviewed papers on his cancer research published in professional journals and textbooks, He holds 32 patents with claims covering cancer pharmaceutics and five patent licenses for cancer therapeutics that he invented. He is recognized for the invention, pre-clinical and clinical development of several FDA-approved pharmaceuticals and devices for the treatment of cancer and rheumatoid arthritis and for a computer-assisted knowledge acquisition program.

Dr. Terman was recognized with several awards and commendations for his professional excellence and outstanding contributions to medical science. He was inducted into the American Society of Clinical Investigation (Academic honor society for physician-scientists) in 1981. He won the Doctors Cancer Research Prize in 2017. He was also the recipient of a Research Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health from 1978 to 1983, a Clinical Investigator Career Development Award from the U.S. Veterans Administration from 1973 to 1976, and several cancer research grants from the National Institutes of Health and American Cancer Society between 1974 and 1984. He was selected by National Institute of Health to serve as consultant to US-Japanese, Italian and Rumanian cooperative cancer research programs and as an invitee to Gordon Conferences in 1982-1984. He was also featured in the 63rd and 68th editions of Who's Who in America. Alongside his professional success, Dr. Terman celebrates more than 50 years of marriage to Naomi Sue Auerbach. They have two children, Erica and Jennifer Shari. In his spare time, he enjoys writing, reading, athletics and music.
