Laszlo George Papp, DLA, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Born in Hungary, Dr. Papp graduated as an architectural engineer at the Polytechnic University of Budapest in 1955 and moved to the United States the following year, after being involved in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, where he was elected as chairman of a revolutionary council, to pursue a career in architecture and continue his education. First hired as a designer with Harrison & Abramovitz Architects in New York City, within two years he had also completed a Master of Architecture degree at Pratt Institute. Between 1963 and 1967, he had become partner at Whiteside & Papp Architects in White Plains, NY, before founding Papp Architects P.C., also in White Plains, as president in 1967.

Overseeing Papp Architects for 38 years, Dr. Papp first served as president for 29 years, then as chairman until 2005. The firm currently works with a very wide range of building types, including commercial, industrial, health care, educational, religious, multi-family housing, recreational facilities, infrastructure improvements, interior design and site planning. During his tenure, Dr. Papp also taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Debrecen in Hungary between 1997 and 2007, and was vice president, president, and on the board of directors of the Clearview School for many years. He also completed a Doctor of Liberal Arts degree through the Technical University of Budapest in 1998. He has been serving as vice chairman of the American Hungarian Foundation since 2000 and as chairman of the Hungarian American Memorial Committee, Inc., since 2003.

Residing in New Canaan, CT, for close to 60 years, Dr. Papp served as chairman of the New Canaan Planning and Zoning Commission for 12 years, having spent a total of 24 years on the commission. A founding president of the North American Hungarian College Students' Federation and member of the Western Hungarian Scientific Council's advisory board, he also served as president of the New York State Association of Architects, as regional director and board member of the American Institute of Architects, where he also organized a program for scores of Hungarian architectural professionals to visit the United States to study and work. Furthermore, in 1981, Dr. Papp was awarded membership in the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects and is an external member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Awarded with one of the highest-ranking decorations by the Hungarian government upon the recommendation of Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán Viktor in 2017, The Hungarian Officer's Cross, Dr. Papp also received the Daughters of the American Revolution Americanism Medal from the Hannah Benedict Carter chapter in 2016. Notably, Dr. Papp has been included in over 70 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World. Married to his wife Judith Liptak for 53 years who was a chemical engineer until her passing in 2005, Dr. Papp is also the father of two children and two grandchildren.
