LOS ALAMOS, NM, April 09, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Joe D. Thompson, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Thompson celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A physicist with the condensed matter and magnet science group at the Los Alamos National Laboratory LLC (LANS) since 1975, Dr. Thompson first joined the organization as a postdoctoral in the cryogenics group before becoming a technical staff member in 1977. Renowned for his efforts in discovering and understanding unconventional forms of superconductivity and magnetism that have significantly contributed to the LANS reputation as a center of word-class materials research, Dr. Thompson recently retired, though he continues to remain active within the laboratory.

A leading voice in the field, Dr. Thompson holds both a BS and PhD in Physics. He has served as a distinguished visiting chair professor of physics at Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, Republic of Korea, from 2012 to 2013, and he is an elected fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

As one of the top 250 most frequently cited physicists in the world, one of Dr. Thompson's greatest achievements has been in the realization that pressure was a particularly useful tuning parameter for discovering exotic quantum states in the 1980's. Since that time, it has been a continuing theme of research. He has been the recipient of numerous awards from the LANS, the Department of Energy, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science for his work. Dr. Thompson was also honored with a 2014 Frank H. Spedding Award, which recognizes achievements in research on the science and technology of rare earths, and he has been featured in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Joe D. Thompson, PhD, has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
